ORDINANCE NO. G I <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF <br />POLICEMEN FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1978. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The annual pay of the officers and <br />members of.the Police Department of the City of South Bend for <br />the year 1978, by rank, classification, and service years, shall <br />be according to the 1978 Police Salary Schedule as follows: <br />Police Chief . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $19,850 <br />Division Chiefs . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18,200 <br />Captains . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 16,650 <br />Lieutenants . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 15,150 <br />Sergeants . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 13,850 <br />Corporal . . . . . . . . . . . . Service Years <br />3 - 5 . . . . . <br />. 11,550 <br />5 - 6 . . . . . <br />. 11,800 <br />6 - 7 . . . . . <br />. 12,050 <br />7 - 8 . . . . . <br />. 12,300 <br />8 - 9 . . . . . <br />. 12,550 <br />9 - 10 . . . . <br />. 12,800 <br />10 - 11 . . . . <br />. 13,050 <br />11 - 12 . . . . <br />. 13,300 <br />12 & above . . . <br />. 13,550 <br />Patrolman First Class . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10,650 <br />Patrolman . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10,000 <br />Officer in Training . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9,500 <br />Any officer in training shall remain in that status <br />until satisfactory completion of the mandatory law enforcement <br />training program. <br />The first service year for a police officer commen- <br />ces upon his being sworn in as a police officer. The police officer <br />shall obtain his second service year on the next succeeding first <br />day of January until he attains the maximum salary for the particu- <br />lar rank he may hold. <br />SECTION II. In addition to the foregoing annual <br />pay, the officers and members of the Police Department shall receive <br />compensation for extra duty and special performance as follows: <br />(a) For time spent in court appearances and over- <br />time, work as determined by the Chief of Police, $5 per hour. A <br />police officer is automatically paid the $5 per hour. When a police <br />officer is recalled for overtime, he /she shall be paid a sum repre- <br />senting not less than two hours overtime, except when the overtime <br />worked is an extension of the officer's regular work shift. <br />(b) For personnel required to work on legal <br />holidays, $32 per holiday worked; this shall apply to the following <br />holidays and no others: <br />New Year's Day Fourth of July <br />Lincoln's Birthday Labor Day <br />Washington's Birthday Columbus Day <br />Good Friday Veteran's Day <br />Easter Sunday Thanksgiving <br />Memorial Day Christmas <br />
