INDIANA 46601 Members of the Common Council 4th Floor Council Chambers County City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Dear Council Members: March 8, 1978 There will be presented to the Common Council, for ing on March 13, 1978, an ordinance appropriating of $62,554.00 from General Revenue Sharing. This is requested for the Police Recruit Program of the Police Department. 219/284 -9742 first read - the amount appropriation South Bend As you may recall., the Council appropriated $30,500.00 for the same Police Recruit Program for the first quarter of 1978. The Council passed this ordinance at the first meeting of 1978. We at this time are requesting the above $62,554.00 to finish out the remainder of 1978, and rather than coming into the Council on a quarterly basis, as was originally anticipated, we are requesting these funds for the remaining nine months of the year. As you know, during the budget hearings this past summer, it was decided that the Police Recruit Progam would be funded either through Revenue Sharing or Counter Cyclical Funds. These funds are to pay the salaries of six to ten recruits who will be at the Police Department during the year. Because of varying times of being sworn in as officers, the time as a recruit for each of the individuals will vary during the course of 1978.
