1207 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 11, 1957 <br />WHEREAS, much of this industrial progrees has been due to friendly labor - management relations in Indiana in <br />recent years, and, <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of Indiana believe in the free enterprise system, the right of labor to organize, and <br />in the process of collective bargaining between labor and management, and <br />WHEREAS, the Indiana General Assembly is considering proposed, legislation for our State which would destroy <br />the basis of the present industrial progress of Indiana, now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, that we earnestly recommend to the <br />Indiana General Assembly, now in session, that no legislation be enacted by the General Assembly which is designated <br />to change or alter the present system of free collective bargaining in labor- management relations in Indiana, which <br />system has proved successful in the industrial growth of Indiana, and is in the best interests of all Indiana <br />citizens. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a,copy of this RESOLUTION be sent to the President of the Indiana Senate, the <br />Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, the majority and minority leaders of the Indiana Senate, and the <br />majority and minority leaders of the Indiana House of Representatives. <br />Unanimously adopted by the Common Council of the CITY OF SOUTH BEND, IM IANA, this 11th day of February, 1957. <br />The above RESOLUTION was unanimously adopted by the COMMON COUNCIL OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, this 11th day of <br />February, 1957. <br />/s/ FREDA G.,,_NOBLE <br />City Clerk <br />The motion for Adoption of the resolution was made by Councilman Muszynski. The motion was seconded by Councilman <br />Carr. Motion tarried. <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br />Traffic Engineer Ernest Miller appeared before the Council at the request of the Council to answer questions regard- <br />ing control of speed, speed signs acid regulations on State Routes intersecting Streets in the City of South. Bend. <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />Councilman Carr requested information as to whether there would be any way of mandating the State of Indiana to con- <br />struct a truck by -pass around South Bend inasmuch as Federal Funds received for that purpose appear to have been <br />depleted before any such road was planned for the Northern part of the State. <br />Delegates from Several P. T. A. Groups attended the Council Meeting. <br />Councilman Tellson made a motion that the Ordinance Committee investigate the possiUlity of placing larger "speed" <br />signs in school.zopes. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Councilman Erler moved that the motion be <br />amended by striking out "Ordinance Committee" and inserting " Traffic and Transportation Committee ". Councilman <br />Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />President Korpal requested that the Clerk write a letter to the Executive Director of the Boy Scouts of this city <br />requesting that the Boy Scouts,who were elected to serve as Councilmen on Boy Scout Day, be present at the February <br />25, 19571 meeting`-'of the Council. <br />Councilman Erlevfrequested an investigation of the brick side - walks at the Garst Street entrance to the Studebaker <br />Corporation. <br />Councilman Kroll requested an investigation by the Police Department of trucks parked on the sidewalk and between <br />the sidewalk and curb on Rupel Street between Wilber and College Streets. <br />There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Tellson made a motion to adjourn.
