REGULAR MEETING <br />1150 <br />JUNE 11th, 1956 <br />$5,300.00 (Two passenger cars and one truck); TO FIRE DEPARTMENT, Q -726, OTHER EQUIPMENT, <br />$3,000.00 (Fire Hose); TO FIRE DEPARTMENT, Q -331, GASOLINE, $2,000.00, ALL OF THE BUDGET <br />FOR THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH-BEND, INDIANA, FOR 1956 AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY. <br />The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Motion by Councilman Erler and seconded <br />by Councilman Muszynski that this ordinance be set for public hearing on June 27th, ^1956. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF ONE MILLION <br />DOLLARS ($1,000,000.00) TO BE APPLIED TO THE COST OF CONSTRUCTION, RE_ CONSTRUCTION AND <br />IMPROVEMENT OF STREETS, AND EXPENSES INCURRED IN CONNECTION THEREWITH. <br />The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Motion by Councilman Hahn and seconded <br />by Councilman Carr that this ordinance be set for public hearing on June 27th, 1956. Motion carried. <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />Mr. Hammerschmidt, Attorney, thanked the Committee for cooperating in investigations being made relative to the <br />proposed Housing Authority Ordinance. <br />Mr. George Carr-,, Chairman of the Committee to investigate Housing, thanked the members of the Committee and the <br />City Officials who have been working so dilligently on this program. He stated that the report is not yet ready. <br />Councilman Hahn made a motion that the matter remain in Committee until the next Council Meeting, June 27th, <br />1956. Councilman Carr seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />NEW BUSINESS, <br />A group of Youths representing the various High Schools appeared before the Council and asked for permission to <br />establish a Youth Council to be composed of representatives of all High Schools, as well as other Church and Youth <br />Groups. After some discussion, President Korpal appointed a committee to meet with the group to discuss forms of <br />organization. The Committee consists of Councilman Kroll, Chairman and Councilmen Carr and Glass. The Committee <br />is "to report to the Council on July 9, 1956. The Youth Group was led by Don Illes, Central High School Graduate <br />of.1956, who resides at 1647 N. Freemont Street, South Bend, Indiana. <br />Councilman Tellson read a letter from General Mark Clark relative to a memorial to Colonel Michael DeKovats. <br />Councilman Tellson made a motion that the communication be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Muszynski second- <br />ed the motion. Motion carried. <br />Councilman Erler made a motion that.the next regular meeting of the Council to`be held June 25th, 1956, be post- <br />poned and that a Call for a Special Meeting be made for June 27th, 1956. Motion was seconded by Councilman Carr. <br />Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Carr made a motion to adjourn.
