REGULAR MEETING <br />OCTOBER 10TH, 1955 <br />The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chamber on the 10th day of October, <br />1955, at the hour of 8:00 P.M. (E.S.T.), in regular session in accordance with the rules of the Council. <br />The meeting was called to order by President, Walter C. Erler, Sr., who presided. <br />Present: Councilmen Walter C. Erler Sr., Stanley Korpal, <br />Michael Pinter, Cloyd Bestle, Walter Glass, <br />William Hahn and Chester Muszynski. <br />Absent: Councilman Clem Niezgodski. <br />REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South_: ,Bend: <br />Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have <br />inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. Councilman Bestle seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />COMMUNICATION <br />Communication from Executive Committee of the American Municipal Corporation extending invitation to city <br />officials "to attend the 32nd annual American Municipal Congress to be held in Miami, November 27th and 30th. <br />Councilman Korpal moved that the communication be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Hahn seconded the <br />motion.. Motion.carried. <br />PETITION <br />Petition of Lola M. Wayt, et al. to rezone property located on Mishawaka Avenue between 27th and 28th Street on <br />the north side of Mishawaka Avenue from "B" residential and "A" height and area to "C" Commercial and "D" height <br />and area. <br />Councilman Glass moved that the petition be - referred Ito the City Plan Commission. Councilman Muszynski seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 4065 <br />AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF VACANT <br />PROPERTY ON LINCOLNWAY EAST BELONGING TO THE <br />WATER WORKS DEPARTMENT OF THE CIVIL CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Kahn moved for suspension <br />of rules. Councilman Bestle seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 <br />absent (Councilman Niezgodski). <br />The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Councilman <br />Niezgodski). <br />ORDINANCE NO. 4,066 <br />AN ORDINANCE NAMING CROSBY AVENUE <br />IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Hahn moved for suspension <br />of rules. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - <br />1 absent (Councilman Niezgodski). <br />The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Councilman <br />Niezgodski). <br />RESOLUTION <br />IN THAT, Saint Mary's College for Women is celebrating this week the centenary of its <br />charter, and <br />IN THAT, Saint Mary's College has, for more than one hundred years, attracted the attention <br />of the state and nation by graduating women who are intelligent, humane, articulate <br />and feminine, and have contributed by careers in science, business and as wives <br />and mothers, and <br />IN THAT, The people of the community in the South Bend area are justifiably proud of the <br />distinction reflected upon all of usby Saint Mary's College, <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of South Bend declare and <br />proclaim the week of October 9 through 15 to be <br />SAINT MARV'S COLLEGE CENTENNIAL WEEK <br />and urge all citizens to observe Founder's Day, October 13, 1955 honoring one <br />hundred years of contribution to the education, cultural, economic and social <br />life of this community. <br />WALTER C.
