REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 10TH, 1955 The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chamber on the 10th day of October, 1955, at the hour of 8:00 P.M. (E.S.T.), in regular session in accordance with the rules of the Council. The meeting was called to order by President, Walter C. Erler, Sr., who presided. Present: Councilmen Walter C. Erler Sr., Stanley Korpal, Michael Pinter, Cloyd Bestle, Walter Glass, William Hahn and Chester Muszynski. Absent: Councilman Clem Niezgodski. REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES To the Common Council of the City of South_: ,Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. KORPAL ) Councilman Glass moved that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Bestle seconded the motion. Motion carried. COMMUNICATION Communication from Executive Committee of the American Municipal Corporation extending invitation to city officials "to attend the 32nd annual American Municipal Congress to be held in Miami, November 27th and 30th. Councilman Korpal moved that the communication be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion.. Motion.carried. PETITION Petition of Lola M. Wayt, et al. to rezone property located on Mishawaka Avenue between 27th and 28th Street on the north side of Mishawaka Avenue from "B" residential and "A" height and area to "C" Commercial and "D" height and area. Councilman Glass moved that the petition be - referred Ito the City Plan Commission. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE NO. 4065 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF VACANT PROPERTY ON LINCOLNWAY EAST BELONGING TO THE WATER WORKS DEPARTMENT OF THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Kahn moved for suspension of rules. Councilman Bestle seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Councilman Niezgodski). The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Councilman Niezgodski). ORDINANCE NO. 4,066 AN ORDINANCE NAMING CROSBY AVENUE IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Hahn moved for suspension of rules. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Councilman Niezgodski). The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Councilman Niezgodski). RESOLUTION IN THAT, Saint Mary's College for Women is celebrating this week the centenary of its charter, and IN THAT, Saint Mary's College has, for more than one hundred years, attracted the attention of the state and nation by graduating women who are intelligent, humane, articulate and feminine, and have contributed by careers in science, business and as wives and mothers, and IN THAT, The people of the community in the South Bend area are justifiably proud of the distinction reflected upon all of usby Saint Mary's College, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of South Bend declare and proclaim the week of October 9 through 15 to be SAINT MARV'S COLLEGE CENTENNIAL WEEK and urge all citizens to observe Founder's Day, October 13, 1955 honoring one hundred years of contribution to the education, cultural, economic and social life of this community.
