REGULAR METTING JANUARY 24TH, 1955 <br />The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chamber on the 24th day of January, <br />1955, at the hour of 8:12 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time), in regular session in accordance with the rules of <br />the Council. <br />The meeting was called to order by President, Walter C. Erler, Sr., who presided. <br />Present: Councilmen Walter C. Erler Sr., Stanley Korpal, <br />Cloyd Bestle, Clem Niezgodski, Walter Glass, <br />William Hahn and Chester Muszynski. <br />Absent: Michael Pinter. <br />REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have <br />inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. They therefore recommend <br />that the same be approved. <br />WALTER C.ERLER SR. ) <br />W. A. HAHN ) Committee <br />STANLEY C. KORPAL ) <br />Regular Meeting of January 10, 1955. <br />Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Muszynski <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />COMMUNICATION <br />Copy of communication to. Ernest H. Miller, Traffic Ehgineer,fromLloyd Poindexter, District Engineer of the <br />Indiana State Highway Department, Laporte District, LaPorte, Indiana, stating that the State turned down a <br />request for traffic signals at the intersection of Arnold and Western Avenue. <br />Councilman Korpal made a motion that the communication be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Hahn <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />PETITION <br />Petition of South Bend Post #1167, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Inc. to rezone Lots "G -2 ", "F -2" and "E -2" as <br />shown on the recorded Plat of Wenger and Kreighbaum's Vistula Avenue Addition, <br />Councilman Korpal made a motion that the petition be referred to the City Plan Commission. Councilman Niezgodski <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ANNUAL REPORT OF THE CITY CLERK FOR THE YEAR 1954. <br />President Erler announced that inasmuch as each Councilman received a copy of the Annual Report of the City <br />q Clerk for the year 1954,'the reading of the report would be dispensed with. <br />Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Bestle seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. <br />NEW BUSINESS° <br />Residents in'the vicinity of the 400 block of S. Meade Street appeared before the Council to protest against the <br />use of heavy trucks on Meade Street. <br />Councilman Korpal made a motion that the Board of Public Works work out a solution against the use of heavy <br />trucks on Meade Street, and that the Board also designate signs prohibiting all trucks. Councilman Niezgodski <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $19,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL <br />FUND TO FIRE DEPARTMENT Q -724 MOTOR 3QUIPMENT OF THE <br />BUDGET FOR 1955 OF THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. <br />5 MINUTE RECESS - 8:45 P.M. <br />Councilman Muszynski made a motion for a five minute recess. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion <br />carried. <br />RECONVENED MEETING - 8:50 P.M. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $19,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL <br />FUND TO FIRE DEPARTMENT Q -724 MOTOR EQUIPMENT OF THE <br />BUDGET FOR 1955 OF THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />Councilman Glass made a motion that the ordinance be brought up on February 7th. Councilman Hahn seconded the <br />motion. Motion lost by a roll call vote of 2 ayes (Councilmen Glass and Hahn) - 5 nays (Councilmen Erler, <br />Korpal, Bestle, Niezgodski and Muszynski) - I absent (Councilman Pinter). <br />Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the ordinance be referred to the February 28th meeting. Councilman <br />Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />
