Huff, Director- Sect"y.
Couneilmm Korpal moved that the report be held up for two weeks. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
REPORT OF CITY PLAN COMMISSION
Common Council
City of South Bend
South Bend, Indiana
Gentlemen:
Your City Planning Commission has been unable to date to comply with Common Council resolution requesting the
Planning Commission to make the necessary study and submit the recommendations relative to the adoption of
legislation for off- street parking requirements. The Commission and the Commission staff are and have been
working towards this recommendation and will report it out at the earliest possible date.
In the meantime, Ordinance 3702, the Zoning Ordinance of South Bend, does not give the Board of Appeals explicit
or implicit authority to grant off- street'parking lots as a transitional use between residential and commercial
or industrial use in an area zoned residentially. Parking lots developed under certain restrictions and conditions
imposed by the Board of Appeals offer a very good transitional use between the different areas..
The proposed Ordinance presented herewith will give the Board of Appeals the necessary authority to grant such uses.
The Ordinance was legally advertised under date of September 28, 1954 and a public hearing was h6ld by your Planning
Commission under date -,of October 21, 1954. The Ordinance is favorably recommended.
RLH:jm
Very truly yours,
Robert L. Huff
Director of Planning
Councilman. Hahn moved that the report be accepted.
