REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 26TH, 1951 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the Council Chamber, Monday, February 26th, 1951, at 8:17 P.M., with all members present. President Niezgodski presided. REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. Kemper Councilman Tellson :Wade a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried. COMMUNICATION TO THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND: WHEREAS, there are - seventeen salaried employees working for the Park Department of the City of South Bend, whose yearly salaries for the past three years have been in the amount set opposite each position on the schedule of pay attached hereto, and WHEREAS, requests have been made of the Board of Park Commissioners by said employees for an increase in their yearly rate of pay for reasons too obvious to enumerate, and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Park Commissioners to cooperate with its salaried employees to the end that each employee shall receive a wage commensurate with the ability, skill and industry required of him to adequately, properly and efficiently perform the duties of his particular job, and WHEREAS, certain duties heretofor performed by the caretaker at the Erskine Club House have been changed, thereby reducing his salary, and the duties of the Engineer at the Natatorium have been changed and payment for same changed to an hourly basis; thereby reducing the salaries in classification No. 11 by a greater amount than funds required for�,the salary increases. NON THEREFORE, the Board of Park Commissioners of the City of South Bend respectfully request your Honorable Council to take such action, if any,.as the law may permit and as in your judgment you may feel proper for an increase in the yearly pay of the salaried employees of the Park Department of the City of South Bend, as set forth in the attached schedule. (Signed) GEORGE KOCH, President Board of Park Commissioners Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the increase be granted to the employees of the Park Department. Councilman Tellson seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Muszynski withdrew his motion. Councilman Tellson withdrew his second. Councilman Erler made a motion that the communication and proposed salary changes of the Park Department be referred to the City Attorney for study and to report back to the next meeting of the Council on March 12th. Councilman Tellson seconded the motion. Motion carried.
