ORDINANCE NO. 3685 <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF AN ADDITIONAL <br />BARRETT LAW CLERK; FIXING THE SALARY THEREOF, AND APPROPRIATING <br />FROM THE GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, THE <br />SUM OF TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED ($2,200.00) DOLLARS TO THE <br />FOLLOWING ACCOUNT OF 1949 BUDGET: OFFICE OF CITY TREASURER, <br />Dtll, SALARIES, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY. <br />539 <br />The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Bestle). <br />ORDINANCE NO. 3686 <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FROM THE GENERAL STREET AND TRAFFIC <br />FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, THE SUM OF FOUR THOUSAND <br />($4,000.00) DOLLARS TO THE FOLLOWING ACCOUNT OF THE 1949 BUDGET: <br />STREET DEPARTMENT, S -711, PROPERTIES, AND DECLARING AN EXTRA- <br />ORDINARY EMERGENCY. <br />The ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - 1 absent (Bestle). <br />R E S O L U T I O N <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: <br />That it is with profound sorrow and deepest regret that the Mayor, the <br />City Administration, and the Common Council learned of the death of City Controller <br />Albert E. Troeger. From January 1, 1948 to the present day.., City Controller Albert <br />E. Troeger had at all times devoted himself energetically and faithfully to the <br />welfare and best interests of his community, thereby exemplifying the highest <br />traditions of public service. The members of his family have the deepest condolence <br />of the Common Council, the Mayor, and the City Administration. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the records of the Common <br />Council, and that a copy thereof be mailed to the family of City Controller Albert <br />E. Troeger, deceased. <br />MEMBERS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br />Councilman Niezgodski made a motion to adopt the Resolution. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . <br />Resolution-meftorializing• the Congress of the United States to pass, and the President of the United States <br />to approve, if pass, the <br />"GENERAL PULASKI'S MEMORIAL DAY" <br />Resolution now pending in Congress <br />Whereas, A Resolution providing for the President of the United States of America to proclaim October 11th <br />of each year as "General Pulaski's Memorial Day" for the observance and commemoration of the death <br />of Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski, is now pending in the present session of the United States <br />Congress; and <br />Whereas, the 11th day of October, 1779, is the date in American history of the heroic death of Brigadier <br />General-Casimir Pulaski, who died from wounds received on October 9th, 1779, at the siege of <br />Savannah, Georgia; and <br />'Whereas, the States of Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, <br />Maryland, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, <br />New York, Nevada., Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin, <br />and other States of the Union, through legislative enactment designated October 11th of each year <br />as "General Pulaski's Memorial Day; and <br />Whereas, it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this day be commemorated with suitable patriotic <br />" and publio exeroises'.in observing and commemorating the heroic death of this great American hero <br />of the Revolutionary War; and <br />Whe reas,o the Congress of the United States of America has by legislative enactment designated October 11, <br />1929, October 11, 1931, October 11, 1932, to October 11, 1946 to be "General Pulaski's Memorial <br />Day ", in the United States of .America; Now therefore be it <br />RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF South Bend and the STATE OF Indiana IN SESSION <br />ASSEMBLED - -- <br />Section 1. That we hereby memorialize and petition the Congress of the United States, to pass, and the <br />President of the United States to approve, if passed, the General Pulaski's Memorial Day Resolution <br />now pending in the United States Congress. <br />Section 2. That certified copies of this Resolution, proper% authenticated, be sent forthwith to the President <br />of the United States, the Vice - president of the United States, the Speaker of the House of <br />Representatives of the United States, and each of the United States Senators and Representatives <br />from Indiana. <br />Councilman Korpal *Wade a motion to adopt the Resolution, and that the instructions forthwith be carried out. <br />Councilman Kemper seconded the motion.
