Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the <br />Council Chamber, November 8th, 19489 at 8 :15 P.M. with all members present. President Niezgodski presided. <br />The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. <br />PFD <br />To the Members of the Honorable Board of Planning Commission <br />of the City of South Bend, Indiana: <br />We the undersigned owners of the following described real estate located in the St. Joseph County, State of <br />Indiana, to wits <br />Lot Numbered Twenty -five (25) in Leepers Second Addition <br />to the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />respectfully petition an amendment to Ordinance No. 2331 (as amended) being the zoning ordinance of the City <br />of South Bend, Indiana, and thereby change and re -zone the above described real estate from "A" Residential <br />District to "C" Commercial District. <br />The petitioners further respectfully represent and show that the lot immediately west of this real estate is <br />now zoned as "C" Commercial District; that said adjacent lot is known as Lot Number Twenty -six (26) in Leepers <br />Second Addition to the.City of South Bend, Indiana; that said petitioners are the owners of said adjacent <br />lot; that these petitioners anticipate building a grocery and market on said real estate in a style which <br />will conform with the usual residhntial design; that said petitioners intend to provide a parking space for <br />their customers and that said Lot Number Twenty -five (25), referred to above, would require considerable <br />leveling before it would be useable; that it is the intention of said petitioners to erect their said building <br />on said Lot Number Twenty -five (25) and use the adjacent property, being lot Number Twenty -six (26), for <br />parking facilities, and that said Lot Number Twentyâ–ºsix (26) would be most desirable as it is adjacent to <br />an existing alley way making for easy ingress and egress; that if said petition be granted, it would be.of <br />great benefit to the surrounding neighborhood by providing for a badly needed grocery and market.. <br />WHEREFORE'petitioners request that notice be given and hearing had upon this petition and that thereafter <br />said change be granted as prayed for herein. <br />FOREST G. Councilman <br />Beetle seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />PETITION <br />;. Ws the undersigned residents of the River Ridge Addition hereby petition the Northern Indiana Transit Company <br />to furnish a bus which will transport children to Marquette School at 8x10 A.M. and 1:00 F.M. and from <br />Marquette School at 11:45 A.M. and 3:.30 P.M. on each day that school is in session. <br />(120 Signers) <br />Councilman Glass made a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Public Works and Safety. <br />Councilman Beetle seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: November 8, 1948 <br />Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred "An Ordinance transferring the sum of #200.00 from Account <br />Number W-344, Medical Supplies and Instruments, Board of Health, to Account Number W138, General Supplies, <br />Board of Health, and declaring an extraordinary emergency'. <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance shall go to <br />the Council as favorable. <br />STAMEY Co KORPAL, Chairman <br />Councilman Kemper made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Tellson seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE CITY PLAN COMMISSION <br />To the Common Council <br />City of South Bend, Ind. <br />Gentlemen: <br />November 5, 1948 <br />In the matter of change of zoning of an unplatted 9.16 acres at Elwood Ave., Portage Ave. and the N.Y.C. Ry. <br />as petitioned for by Win. M. Hass, the City Plan Commission has held an advertised public hearing on this <br />project and they do not recommend the change. <br />Herewith is a written remonstrance filed by owners of property in the vicinity of the unplatted aecreage# <br />The City Plan Commission has also received a petition bearing the signatures of several hundred property <br />owners in the north-rest part of the 'City asking that this area be made a playground. This petition is being <br />forwarded to the Park Board for their consideration. <br />D. MOOMAW, Seely. <br />Councilman Korpal made a motion that the report be placed on file. Councilman Erler seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />
