I REGULAR MEETING JULY 12TH, 1948 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the <br />Council Chambers, City Hall, July 12th, 1948, at 8:00 P.M., with all members present except Councilman Kemper. <br />President Niezgodski presided. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. <br />REPORT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY <br />Members of the Common Council <br />City Hall <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />July 12, 1948 <br />Attached hereto are copies of reports from Mr. William Qualls, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, on <br />petitions for street lights at Calvert and Robinson Streets Clyde and Altgeld Street,, College and Vassar Streets <br />Dale Avenue and Donmoyer Street, Linden and Huey Streets and Irvington Street at Marine Street, St. Vincent and <br />St. Joseph Streets, and at the South End of Robin Hood Lane. <br />Mr. Qualls also informed the Board that lights ordered in at Queen and Allen Street, Hawthorne Drive and Washington <br />Street and seven lights in the Bereliff Addition which had been ordered in by the Board, had been installed and <br />were now in service. <br />Very truly yours, <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY <br />C. CITY PLAN COMMISSION <br />To the Common Council, <br />City of South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />July 2, 1948 <br />Petition of South Bend Current Controller Co. for change of zoning classification of Lots 46 and 47 in Baker and <br />McHenry's Addition from "B" Use and "A" Height and Area Districts to "D" Use and "E" Height and Area Districts <br />was considered by the City Plan Commission at their regular meeting July 1, 1948 after public hearing on the <br />same. <br />This change is recommended as petitioned for. <br />These lots are immediately North of the present plant of the Current Controller Co. at the Northeast corner of <br />North Side Blvd. and Roberts St* <br />D. Moomaw, Seely. <br />Councilman Erler made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON DUMP SITES <br />To the HonoraVle Mayor and the City Council July 12, 1948 <br />The Committee on dump sites met as requested by Mayor George A. Schock and wishes to report to the Mayor and the <br />Council of its findings. Two sites were turned in and considered. Both sites being in the same section of town <br />would not serve the City properly as centrally located dump sites. After a thorough investigation and discussion, <br />the Committee came to the conclusion that South Bend should have a rubbish collection similar to our garbage <br />collection. <br />The Committee recommends that the Mayor take this suggestion under consideration and include in the budget for <br />1:49 an estimated sum for the collection of rubbish. <br />S TATTLEY C. Councilman Tellson seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: July 12, 1948 <br />Your Committee of the 'Whole to whom was referred "An Ordinance transferring the sum of 1300.00 from Account <br />Number G -132, abstracting Office of City Attorney, to Account Number G -11, Salary of Clerk, Office of City <br />Attorney; and the sum of J500.00 from Account Number 58 -B, Building Contingent Fund, Office of Board of Public <br />Works and Safety, to ;Account Number I1 -725, Off ice Equipment, Office of Board of Public Works and Safety, and <br />declaring an extraordinary emergency. <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance shall be referred <br />to the Council as favorable. <br />STANLEY C.
