June 7, 1948
Attention: Mr. Korpal
I have investigated the hazardous conditions at the southwest corner of Colfax Avenue and Michigan Street due
to the location of the Indiana Cab Stand, as requested at your last regular Council Meeting, May 24, 1948.
At present three. -cabs park at this location, the first within 10 feet of the Michigan Street Crosswalk.
In leaving the, stand, considerable hazard and confusion is encountered with regular traffic on Colfax Avenue,
:especially whesf cabs make a left turn north into Michigan Street or when Colfax traffic turns south into Michigan
Street.
Indiana Cab Company officials have agreed to a reduction in the number of cabs from three to two at this location,
thereby holding the first cab 30 feet back of the Michigan Street crosswalk. This will provide for'better
maneuverability at this location. The Cab Company•officials further agreed to instruct their drivers to use
extreme caution when leaving this stand so as to avoid conflict with moving traffic on Colfax Avenue.
Very truly yours,,
