<br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the
<br />Council Chamber, City Hall, March 22nd, 1948, at 8:20 P.M., with all members present except Councilman Tellson.
<br />President Niezgodski presided at the meeting. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived.

<br />March 22, 1948
<br />Attached hereto are reports submitted by Mr. Qualls recommending the installation of street lights at Arnold
<br />Street and Western Avenue, Olive Street and Prairie Avenue and in a court between Main and LaFayette Boulevard
<br />just north of Navarre Street. The Board has approved these installations and ordered them in.
<br />Mr. Qualls also informed.the Board that lights ordered in at Hawthorne Drive and Jefferson Boulevard, Harris and
<br />Dunham Streets, on Walnut Street.at the Danish Hall, 24th and Hastings Streets and Crumstown and Iowa Streets
<br />had all been installed and were now in service.

<br />This ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Erler made a motion that the ordinance be referred

<br />TO ACCOUNT NUMBER T -724, MOTOR EQUIPMENT, BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY -
<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT, $180.50, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY.
<br />This ordinance_ was given first and second reading. Councilman Korpal made a motion that the ordinance be set

<br />- AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 966, ADOPTED MAY 13, 1895, ENTITLED AS
<br />A GENERAL CODIFYING ORDINANCE, BY ADDING A NEW SECTION THEREON IN REFERENCE
<br />TO BLOCKING OF STREET CROSSINGS BY RAILROAD TRAIN OR CARS TO BE KNOWN AS
<br />SECTION 273 -1/2, AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES.
<br />This ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Korpal made a motion that the ordinance be set
<br />for public hearing April 12th, 1948. Councilman Kemper seconded the motion. Motion carried.
<br />MOTION
<br />Mr. Carl W. Ginz, President of the Park Board; Mr. Lisle McNabb, Superintendent, and Mr. Hugh Woolverton, Member
<br />of the Board, appeared before the 'Council Monday night in response to a request for information as to what part
<br />the Park Department can play in combatting the spread of a scale infestation in maple trees in the River Park
<br />area and south section of the city.
<br />Councilman Glass made a motion that President Nipsgodski appoint a -Commlittee to work out a plan with the Board
<br />and make're commendations later. Councilman Erler seconded the motion. Motion carried.
<br />The Committee is composed of Councilman Stanley C. Korpal, Mro Glass and Mr. Erler.
