DMI <br />REMONSTRANCE <br />PROTEST AND REMONSTRANCE WITH RESPECT TO THE REZONING OF REAL <br />ESTATE 'WITHIN THE WALNUT GROVE MUTUAL HOUSING CORPORATION <br />(26th to 29th Streets on.East.Jefferson Blvd.) <br />( 2. Signers) <br />POSTPONED MEETING: <br />Councilman Mirocha made a motion that the regular meeting of April 22nd, 1946, be postponed until <br />April 29th, 1946'and that all business scheduled for the April 22nd, 1946 regular meeting be postponed <br />until April 29th, 1946. Councilman McCarthy seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION: <br />YYHEREAS, representatives of the Southmore Mutual Housing Corporation have requested the Common Council <br />of the City of South �end,•Indiana, to indicate its official approval of their plan for operating the <br />Southmore Heights housing project under a non - profit mutual ownership plan, and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council has examined into the plan of said mutual ownership corporation, and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council has examined a statement of policy of the Federal Public Housing Authority <br />for sales to such corporations. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that: <br />1. This Council go on record as officially approving the mutual ownership plan of the Southmore <br />Mutual housing Corporation, and that this Council recommends that the Southmore Heights Housing <br />project be sold to the said Southmore Mutual Housing Corporation, and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent by the City Clerk, together with an <br />appropriate letter of trangmittal to Mr. Philip M. Klutzniek, Commissioner, Federal Public Housing <br />Authority, Washington, D.0 <br />Clem Nie;godski <br />Member of the Common Council <br />Councilman Richardson made a motion that this Resolution be held in obeyance until some future date <br />during the emergency. Councilman Heideman seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />Attorney George Beemer, was present at the meeting, representing property owners in the vicinity of <br />Southmore Heights, who are apposed to this housing project being sold to a private corporation. <br />Two petitions with 37 signers on one and 8 on the other opposing private ownership of the projects <br />was handed too the Clerk after the reading of the Resolution. <br />Wm Voor, Attorney for the City Housing Authority was present and read a letter from Orvil R. Olmsted, <br />Director, Region III, Federal Public Housing Authority, Chicago, with regard to the Southmore Heights <br />project. <br />Hubert M. Weaver, representing the South Bend - Mishawaka Board of Realtors, was also present and <br />stated they were opposed to private ownership of the Southmore Heights project. <br />There being no further business, Council adjourned at 8 :55 P.M. <br />ATTEST: <br />CLERK <br />APPROVED: <br />/4 IDE+VT' <br />
