<br />II REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 14th, 1946
<br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session
<br />in the Council Chambers;. City Plall, on I:_onday, January 14th, 1946, ay 7 :35 P.M., with all members present
<br />except Councilman_ 1116.cCarthy. The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting was waived.
<br />President Korpal presided.
<br />COI.1IdIUNICATIONS:
<br />n letter from Irene Trim, Sec'y, the John F. Nuner P. T. A., with regard to the lack of adequate lighting
<br />around the John F. Nuner School, t-.,as read. Councilman Bishop made a motion that the communication be
<br />referred to the Board of Public corks and Safety. Councilman Brannan seconded the motion. Motion carried.
<br />A letter from Raymond E. 1°rillis, United States Senator, acknowledging receipt of a copy of the resolution
<br />passed,by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, on Lecember 28th, 1945, in reference to the
<br />House Bill TS -1592, was read. Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the communication be placed on
<br />file. Councilman Heideman seconded the motion. Motion carried.

<br />Gentlemen:
<br />There is before-your board for passage an ordinance enabling the South amend Board of Public 1^aorks
<br />and Safety to establish one way streets in South Bend. We are not against the favorable passage of this
<br />bill.
<br />However, if the ordinance is passed, there is contained therein your authority to designate certain
<br />streets that may not be established as one -way streets.
<br />Attached herewith is a petition directed to your board requesting that South Carroll Street be NOT
<br />established as a one -way street south from Lincoln 'Tay East to 17ayne Street.
<br />The petition is signed in good faith by business and property oroAaers and it is requested that you
<br />give the matter thorough consideration.

<br />Councilman Bishop made a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Public Works "and Safety.
<br />Councilman Mirocha seconded t'r!e motion. Motion carried.

<br />December 21, 1945.
<br />",'e, the undersigned employees of Tucker Freight'Lines, Incorporated, National Carloading Company, C. &. E.
<br />Trucking Company and the Rainbo Express Company, Incorporated, located at 1415 South Olive Street, South Bend,
<br />Indiana., request the extension of the Rum Village Bus from -?ash Street to Olive Street. There are
<br />approximately 'fifty people employed at -these terminals without means of transportation at the present time.
<br />We feel that.such an extension besides being a convenience to us would be profitable to ±.he bus lines as
<br />there are several small industries, as well as private residence in this area without transportation.

<br />Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the petition be referred to the Transportation Committee.
<br />Councilman Hull seconded the motion. Motion carried.

<br />TO YHOIv! IT CONCERNS:
<br />We, the undersigned agree to keep our cars parked in the parking bays at all times in order to keep the
<br />streets clear for bus traffic. We then hope to have a complete bus route on Langley Drive.

<br />Councilman Brannan made a motion that the pe=tition be placed on file. Councilman Bishop seconded the
<br />motion. Motion carried.
<br />PETITION:
<br />14ith reference to making Olive Street from 17estern Avenue to Sample Street, a boulevard.
<br />Councilman Bishop made a motion to refer the petition to the Committee of the 10,7hole,.until the Council
<br />can get an understanding of the matter. Councilman Hull seconded the motion. Councilman Hull withdrew
<br />his second and Councilman Bishop -v,,,ithdrew his motion.
<br />Councilman Iyirocha, made a motion that Attorney Pawlowski, the Park Board, City Attorney, Mr. Mloomaw, and
<br />himself representing the Council, have a meeting to discuss this matter and have an ordinance drawn. up, if
<br />necessary and present it to the Council. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motiori,and also made an
<br />amendment to the effect that Councilman Mirocha be the chairman. Motion carried.
