ITION <br />RESOLUTION TO PETITION THE UNITED STATE'S ^TA..vY TO NAME 037?F OF ITS YE17 CRUISERS THE "SOUTI3 BEPjD ". <br />the City of South Bend is interested in having an American Cruiser named in its honor, and <br />the City of South Bend has never before been so honored, and <br />no city in the northern part of the State of Indiana has ever been so honored, and <br />the City of South Bend is contributing its full share of men and materials to the present war effort, <br />313 <br />Now, therefore; -be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana that: <br />1. The Navy Department be and the same is hereby requested to name one of the new American Cruisers the "South Bend" <br />in honor of said city. <br />2. That a copy of this resolution, properly executed, be sent to the Honorable Frank Know., Secretary of the Navy, <br />to the Senators of the State of Indiana, and to the Representative from the Third Congressional District of the State <br />of Indiana. <br />3. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council. <br />Councilman Bishop made a motion for the adoption of the Resolution. Councilman McCarthy seconded the motion. Motion <br />carried. <br />Councilman Jordan made a report (verbal) for the Grievance Committee to whom had been referred a matter reported by <br />C.B. Dunnuck. .Mr. Jordan reported that in view of the facts the Committee could do nothing. <br />There being no further business, Council adjourned at 7:59 P.M. <br />TEST: / <br />APPROVED: <br />/l <br />
