298_ <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 26, 1942 <br />Be it remembered that the members of the Common -ounci.l of the City of youth Bend, Indiana, met in the Council <br />Chambers of the City Hall, Monday, January 26th, "1942, at 8 :42 P.M. Vice- President Hull presiding in t1ke absence <br />of President Pulaski. Members present were Hull, Neizgodski, Bishop, McCarthy, Heideman, Brennan, Richardson and <br />Jordon. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. <br />COMMUNICATION: <br />A letter from Mrs L. M. Crosby Coffman was read. A motion by councilman Richardson that the communication be refe <br />red to the Board of Works. Seconded by Councilman Neizgodski. Motion passed. <br />PETITIONS: <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana. <br />Gentlemen : - <br />December 29, 1941 <br />'Ne the undersigned property owners, petition your honorable body to install electric street light at <br />corner Huron and Lake Streets. (24 petitioners) <br />Councilman McCarthy made a motion to refer petition to the Board of Works, seconded by Brannan. Motion carried. <br />TO THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND: <br />The undersigned, as owner of the following described real estate situated within the City of South Bend, <br />St. Joseph ('ounty, "tate of Indiana, to -wit; <br />A tract• of land situated in the Northwest Quarter (NW-) of Section Two (2), Township Thirty -seven (37) <br />North, Range Two (2) Fast, which tract is described as follows, to -wit: Beginning at the intersection <br />the south;-11nes -of lwood Avenue with the westerly line of Portage Avenue in the "ity of "outh Bend; <br />thence southwesterly on the north line of a lot containing twenty -seven hundreths (427) acre heretofore <br />sold to Walter G. Butler, Attorney <br />A motion by Bishof that this petition be referred to the City Plan Commission was seconded by Richardson. <br />Motion carried. <br />COMMITTEE OF THE VrITOLE: <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana Jan. 26, 1942 <br />Your Committee of the ;Whole to whom was referred "An ordinance amending an ordinance transferring the <br />amount of five thousand dollars from the General `und of the City of youth Bend, Indiana to the budget of the <br />Board of Public Works and Safety and appropriating said amount for the preparation and maintenance of civil <br />defense, respectfully report that they have examined the matter and in their opinion it should be referred to the <br />Council favorably. <br />Leo M. Jordan <br />Chairman <br />Councilman McCarthy made a motion the report be accepted. Seconded by Councilman Brannan. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC .+URKS AND SAFETY: <br />Mrs A. D. Maloney, <br />1006 E. Bowman St., <br />South Bend., Ind. <br />Dear Madam: <br />This letter is written in response to your letter written to the Common Council of South Bend, under date of <br />January 8, 1942. <br />Please be advised that a police officer will be assigned to duty at the corner of Calvert St., and Fellow Street, <br />on schoolm days, beginning at 11:30 A. M., in accordance with the policy recently adopted by the Common Council. <br />It is the opinion of the Board of Public "Norks and Safety that providing police officers for this purpose throuout <br />the City, will result in a shortage of men for other vital work, but as long as we are able, we will honor requests <br />of this kind. <br />If you have any further or additional suggestions concerning the safety of the school children, we shall be very <br />happy to have them. <br />Very truly yours, <br />Board of Public Ifforks and Safety. <br />CC to the Common Council. <br />A motion by �Iouncilman McCarthy that this report be accepted was seconded by Councilman Heideman.
