Dear Madam:
This letter is written in response to your letter written to the Common Council of South Bend, under date of
January 8, 1942.
Please be advised that a police officer will be assigned to duty at the corner of Calvert St., and Fellow Street,
on schoolm days, beginning at 11:30 A. M., in accordance with the policy recently adopted by the Common Council.
It is the opinion of the Board of Public "Norks and Safety that providing police officers for this purpose throuout
the City, will result in a shortage of men for other vital work, but as long as we are able, we will honor requests
of this kind.
If you have any further or additional suggestions concerning the safety of the school children, we shall be very
happy to have them.
Very truly yours,
