285 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular ses.sion in the Council <br />Chambers, City Hall, Monday, September 22, 1941, at 7:45 P.M. with all members present. President Richardson pre- <br />sided. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was omitted by unanimous consent. <br />COMMUNICATION <br />TO THE COMMON COUNCIL: <br />September 9, 1941 <br />Attached hereto is a copy of a letter which was sent to the attorney of the Grand Trunk Railway, concerning the <br />matter of crossings at 30th and 32nd Streets. <br />We feel this letter is self - explanatory. <br />(attached letter <br />Mr. Arthur L. May <br />811 J.M.S. Bldg. <br />South Bend, Ind. <br />Dear Sir: <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />JAMES P. CONBOY, Clerk <br />September 9, 1941 <br />The City is interested in opening 30th and 32nd Streets, and is therefore requesting that the Grand Trunk Railway <br />give the City rights -of -way at these two points so that proper crossings can be installed. <br />The residents .in this vicinity.are anxious that this be done at the earliest possible instance, and it is my under- <br />standing that you have already taken the matter up in an informal way. <br />Please advise as soon as possible concerning the attitude of the railway company towards this matter. <br />Very truly yours, <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY <br />James P. Conboy, Clerk <br />Councilman McCarthy made a motion that the communication be placed on file. Councilman Brannan seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />PETITION, <br />South Bend, Ind., Sept. 18, 1941 <br />TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY & CChFION COUNCIL <br />of the City of South Bend, Indiana. <br />Gentlemen: <br />We the undersigned property owners, petition your honorable body to improve intersection of No. Side Blvd. & 26th <br />street from - by installing street light on the southwest corner of intersection. <br />Paul Raber - 1219 S. 26th and 15 other signers <br />Councilman Brannan made a motion that the petition be referred to the Board of Works. Councilman Bishop seconded <br />the motion. Motion carried. <br />
