245
Councilman Bishop made a motion to refer the petition to the Board of Works and Safety and the City Attorney for
investigation and action. At this time this matter was discussed at some length. Councilman Jordan stated that
he would like the action to cover all the dumps in the city. City Attorney Levy advised that this is the intention
of the Board. Mr. Joseph Levy of the River Park Civic Association suggested that dirt from Pleasant Street be put
on the dump. Mr. Williams, City Engineer, said this could be done but it was questionable whether or not it would
be permissible to dump dirt on private property without the owner's permission. After a study of figures showing
delinquent taxes, Mr. McCarthy suggested the possibility of the city acquiring the property for park purposes. Mr.
Levy said this suggestion would be kept in mind. Councilman McCarthy seconded the motion of Councilman Bishop.
Motion carried.
REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES
To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:
Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected
the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct.
