113 kconzlnuea) keep INPA going, and WHEREAS; If 1200 South Bend WPA workers are laid off it will mean at least $72,000 of the presen buying power running through the trade channels of the city being withdravn and at the same time the forcing back on relief of over x!,800 dependents, which will result in a falling off of business for the businessmen accompanied by a corresponding rise in local taxes in order to pay for the $24,000 per month additional relief load which will be brought about by such-layoffs, and WHEREAS: The effects of this inadequate appropriation on the businessmen, unemployed, laboring groups and the citizens generally may be avoided by Congress voting for the needed $+150,000,000 as proposed by the President, and INHEREAS: This City Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana_, realizing their responsibility to and acting in the interests of the citizens of this city, in the light of the above mentioned facts, do hereby RESOLVE,: To go-. on record-urging our Congressmen to support President Roosevelt's request for a $150,000,000 appropriation for WPA, before April, and be it further RESOLVED: That copies of this resolution be sent to President Roosevelt, our congressmen from the State of Indiana, and Herbert Benjamin, National Secretary of the Workers Alliance, 1211 Eye St., N.W., Washington, D.C. R E S 0 L U T I 0 N r'ESOLUTION ALLOCATING THE SUM OF TEN THOUSAND ( $10,000.00) FROM THE AMOUNT APrR.OPRIATED FOR 'A.'PA AND PWA IN THE 1939 BITDG:ET UNDER ACCOUNT H -27, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC 11ORKS TO SPECIAL 'NPA ACCOUNT. CBE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: That the sum of Ten Thousand. Dollars (,110,000.00) be and the same is hereby allocated from accounj H -27, Department of Public Works in the 1939 Budget to special WPA Account, and that this amount so allocated by the Common Council may be used during the year 1939, for the purchase of materials labor and other items chargeable to the various City WPA projects, subject to the approval of the Board of Works. The amount so allocated shall be deducted. from the amount of One Hundred Seventy,) Five Thousand Dollars ($175,000.00), anpropriated in the 1939 Budget under account H -27, Depart- ment of Public Works.
