Pike, Director of the <br />Division of Operations in Indianapolis, T111-s letter, of course, is self-explanatory end will <br />bring out clearly the points necessary to be complied with before work can be started. <br />This for your information and appropriate action. <br />Yours very truly, <br />Harry B. Weaver <br />Acting Supervisor <br />Division of OperPt ions <br />Subject: State Application #30499 <br />Construction of Intercepting Sewers <br />South Bend, St. Joseph County <br />Dear Sir: <br />In reply to your letter of November 25th, we regret very much that the city of South Bend's <br />Common Council rejected the PWA grant for construction of the sewage treatment plant and <br />river crossings. <br />Relative to placing this project in operation in the near future, we will be unable to author- <br />ize such action unless the following provisions are made by the sponsor: <br />(1) A resolution shall be passed by the South Bend Common Council authorizing the <br />construction of the river crossings by private contract an'd making available <br />immediately the necessary funds for such river crossing construction. <br />(2) Sponsor's funds pledged as their shere of the :cost of this project shall be made <br />available prior to the placing of this project in operation) <br />(3) A supplementary project application shall be prepared covering the construction of <br />the sewage treatment plant and such application shall be approved by a resolution <br />of the South Bend Common Council, which resolution shall also provide authoriza- <br />tion for the financing of the Sponsor's cost,of construction. This application <br />must receive the approval of the State Administrator. <br />The supplementary project application should include the cost of the river crossings as well <br />as the treatment plant, as the sponsor is entitled to full credit for the cost of such crossings <br />The submission of a supplementary application will necessitate a slight change in the President- <br />ial letter description whib# will be accomplished by this office. The use of this method of <br />obtaining the necessary funds for the construction of the river crossings and treatment plant <br />will enable you to operate the entire project under one officisl and work project number. <br />Upon receipt-of your initial WPA Form 701 -R, accompanied by proper evidence of compliance rith <br />the above enumereted conditions, authorization will be granted to place this project in <br />operation. <br />Yours truly, <br />Councilmen Chambers moved that said Board of Public Works <br />file. Councilman Rasmussen-seconded the motion. <br />Councilman James moved to amend motion that said Board of <br />referred aback to the Board of Public Works and Safeity and <br />Councilman Fish seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL <br />Raymond L. Pike, Director <br />Division of Operations <br />and Safety letter be placed on <br />Public Works and Safety letter be <br />that they proceed with the WPA grant. <br />The rate you incorporated et-the request of taxicab operators into the City Ordinance was <br />disapproved of by the members of the drivers union. They are most vitally concerned and in <br />order to maintain our amiable relationships we have agreed upon a rate which we, the under - <br />signed, hereby petition that you place into effect by amending the ordinance in question to <br />read as follows: <br />MAXIMUM RATE - <br />25¢ for first mile or fraction thereof and 50 „for each succeeding J mile. <br />MINIMUM RATE - <br />25¢ for first mile or frection thereof end 5¢ for each succeeding J mile. <br />A.
