<br />An Ordinance approving the action of the Board of Public Works and Safety under date of May
<br />17 in purchasing said described Real Estate for the purpose of obtaining gravel for the City
<br />Sponsor's share of works project 165 -52 -1130 and further authorizing controller to draw creeks
<br />out of the fund established for the City Sponsor's share for the purpose, of paying for said
<br />Real Estate.
<br />An Ordinance wee given its first reading by title, its second reading in full. , Councilman
<br />Goetz moved to suspend the rules, end that said Ordinance to to third reading. Councilman
<br />Bierwagen seconded the motion. Motion carried. The rules suspended and ordinance goes to third
<br />breading.
<br />The Ordinance was given its third reading by title and placed upon its passage and passed
<br />by the following vote: Hull, Goetz, Bierwagen, James, Lerner, Fish, Chambers, Rasmussen and
<br />Palicki. Ayes 9. Nays 0. Ordinance adopted.
<br />ORDI'•'ANCE NO. 3214
<br />Ordinance to repeal Ordinance No. 1203, adopted August 13, 19031 and to provide for warn-
<br />ing signs at the crossing of Washington Street over the track of the New York Centre.l Railroad
<br />Company in the City of South Bend, Indiana.
<br />The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its seconde reading in full and on
<br />motion of Councilmen Chambers was referred to the Traffic Committee and that they report beck
<br />to'the Council on June 14th, 1937. Councilmen Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
<br />RESOLUTION
<br />Pertaining to the rerouting of the new Bus Service on the Portege Avenue line as well as the
<br />Notre Dame and Madison Street Car Lines.
<br />WHEREAS the City has requested that the Northern Indiana Railway Company eliminate it's present
<br />Street 6a.r Service, and that a modern Bus Service be provided in it's steed, and
<br />IHEREAS, with the elimination of the Street Cars, the present tracks will be removed from the
<br />streets nova having the Street Car right of way, i.e., on Portage ,Avenue, Nave.rre Street, and,
<br />North Michigan Street from Navarre to LaSalle, end.
<br />WHEREAS; the tracks on North Michigan Street between LaSalle and Washington are now being used
<br />by the Portage, Madison, and Notre name lines, but with the elimination of the old St. Marys
<br />end the-- Portege Avenue lines, the north bound Madison street end Notre Dame Street Cars will
<br />be the only Street Care that will use these tracks, and
<br />WHEREAS, the Street Car right of way on North Michigan Street between LaSal7;e' and Washington
<br />Is-in a very bad condition and also has an obsolete switch which was used for the St. Marys _
<br />line thereby creating a traffic hazard that shoo ld be removed by the rerouting of the north-
<br />bound Madison Street and Notre Dame Street Cars, in which case North Michigan Street could then
<br />be reconditioned ell the way to Washington Street instead of just to LaSalle Avenue.
<br />tHEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ncrthern Indiana Railway Company be requested to reroute
<br />it,a northbound Madison Street and Notre Dame Street Cars over the tracks serving the Mishawaka
<br />lines, and that the tracks be removed from North Michigan Street between Navarre Street and
<br />Washington Street, thereby greatly improving the appearance of our main business street as well
<br />as greatly lessening the traffic hazard to both our vehicle drivers and pedestricans.

<br />ing One Buffalo - Springfield Model "VT -21" Tandem Road-Roller-powerea with a Model "DJXC" six
<br />cylinder Hercules Diesel engine; two speeds forward and two reverse; spring actuated scrapers
<br />on both rollers; complete with gravity type sprinkler system and cocoa mats on each roller,
<br />Price f.o.b. South Bend, Indiana, $4350.00, Ilectic starting and lighting equipment will be
<br />furnished on any of the above road rollers at an additional price of 125.00 with equipemant
<br />for an agreed price-of $4475.00 be in ell things ratified and confirmed by this body.
<br />AND-IT FURTHER is the sense of this-body that this amount is not an additional appropriation
<br />but is an amount ppyeble to Account I -12 previously appropriated by this body for the .purpose
<br />of paying the Sponsor's Share of Works Project L65- 52— ;130, and the Controller of the City of
<br />South Bend is authorized and directed by the terms of -this resolution to pay for the said
<br />roller and equipment out of the funds eppropriated by this body for the purpose of paying the
<br />Sponsor's Share of said project.
