I tike the liberty of trsnsmittin g Clevelar_c City Council's resolution No. 106046 memorializing <br />Con_Rress to enact the "United States Housing Act of 1937 ". This bill provides for the financ- <br />ing and decentrplizrtion of housing Activities. Under its terms, loans and subsidies will be <br />Pvaileble to those cities and towns that concern themselves with improving housing conditions <br />of the low- income group of their population a:nd /or the cle?rAnce of their expensive end soci.all <br />undesirable slum Preps. <br />Our city, like many others in the country, h•• s undertaken the beginning of a.low -cost housinv <br />and slum clerrAnce proe•r?m which hFs received the unanimous support of tts citizens. Our city <br />like'-.your own, however, cen not �o forwrrd =nd reap the full benefits of such a progrrm unless <br />pdditionnl funds are made rvAilnble. The "United States Housing Act of 1937" makes this poss- <br />ible. <br />We request your city to join with us in petitioning Congress that it enact this worthwhile <br />measure at on early date. Won't you please pees a like resolution end request the Senators <br />and Congressmen of you State to join with those from other states in pressing for an early pass <br />age of the measure? <br />I wo,ild appreciate it if you would let me know whet action your city takes on this matter and <br />- send me a. copy of any resolution you may adopt. <br />Thanking you for your prompt consideration of this matter, I remain <br />Sincerely yours, <br />Ernest J. Motion carried. <br />ORDI JATTCE NO. 3203 <br />An Ordinance appropriating the sum of Three Thousand Dollers from the Generai Fund of <br />the City of South Bend to account under the Board of Public Works for repair of Fire Stations, <br />this sum being the amount necessary to meet the bids of the proposed improvement to 42 Fire <br />Station in excess of the Ninety -Five Hundred Dollars aperopriated in the 1937 Budget. <br />The Ordinance was given its third rending by title and was placed upon its pessage and <br />passed b-' the -f ollowing. vote: Hull, Goetz, Bierwagen, Kerner, Fish, Chambers and Palicki, 7 ayes <br />Councilman James didn't vote. 0 nays. Ordinence adopted. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 3204 <br />Ordinance approvinv the action of the Board of Public Works in purchasing s new street <br />sweeper in conformity to money appropriated therefore in the 1937 Budget from the Elgin Sweeper <br />Company, <br />The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reading in full.r-.Councilmai <br />Hull moved:'to- :suspend "the rules. Councilman. Chambers seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />Ordinance goes to. third reading. <br />The Ordir.Ance was given its third -reeding by title and. was placed upon its passage• and <br />passed by the following vote: Hull, Goetz, BierrzigA James, Kerner, Fish, Chambers end <br />Palicki. 8 ayes. 0 n.Ays. Ord;.r_ance adopted. <br />Councilman Chambers moved. that the "Resolution directing the Board of Public Health and the <br />Bosrd.of Public Sefety of the City of South Bend to make certain transfers of money and pro- <br />perty under certain contingencies hereinafter set forth.," be amended. (In regard to the new <br />car for the Health Depert,ent) <br />Councilman Goetz moved that a special committee be appointed to investigate and make report <br />next meeting. President Fish appointed Hull, Kerner and James. <br />There being no further business, Councilman Hull moved to adjourn. Ccuncilma.n Chambers second- <br />ed the motion. Motion cerried.
