SPECIAL ATEETING OCTOBER 9th. 1.936 <br />MINUTES <br />Be it remembered thht the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the <br />Special Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening, October 5th, 1936, at <br />-the hour of 5:00 P. M. All members were present. President Fish-presided. <br />STATE OF INDIANA CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING <br />ST. JOSEPH COUNTY )SS: FOR <br />CITY OF SOUTH? EEIND ) COMMON COUNCIL <br />To the Members of the Common Council <br />of the City of South Bend, Indie_ns : <br />You are hereby notified that under end by virtue of the authority by law vested in me as <br />Mayor of the City of South Bend, of the State of Indiana., a special meeting of the Common Counci' <br />of said City is hereby celled to be held at the hour of 7:30 m'clock P. M., or as soon thereafte <br />as convenient,•on-Mond2y evening October 5th, 1936, in the Council Chambers in said City, for th <br />nurpose of considering a petition for a change of zoning of that part of a city block lying nort: <br />6f the New Y ®rk Centrsl right of way, south of Lincoln Way East, East of Miami Street and west o <br />Marine Street, or any part thereof; a letter from the South-Bend Civic Safety Council recommend- <br />ing the immediate installation of signal lights at Blaine Ave. and Johnson Street, and the ehang <br />ing of overhead lights at Cushing, Wilber end Olive Streets to Standard curb- -type signals; end <br />the fol7.owing ordinances, to -wtt : <br />"An Ordinance appropriating certain sums.'from the General Fund of Operating Balance in <br />the Department-of Public Parks in the City of South Bend, Indiana., to certain sub - <br />divisions in said department and transferring certain sums from subdivisions in said <br />department to other subdivisions in the same department, all as hereinafter set out." <br />"An Ord nance appropriating the sum of three hundred eleven ddllars from the General <br />Fund of the City of South Bend to account H -14 -A, the same being the account for renai <br />of buildings, structures under the Board of Public Works." <br />Dated this 2nd day of October, 1.g36 A. St.arck <br />Member, South Bend, Police Dept. <br />The report of the Call of Specisl Meeting of the Council was accepted by the Council and ordered <br />to be placed on file. motion carried. <br />COKt.1TUNICATION: <br />To Members of the Common Council <br />City of South Bend <br />Gentlemen: <br />On September 16, 1936, the South Bend Civic Safety Council received a communication Vrom the <br />department of public safety, stating that it would be impossible to make certain recommended <br />changed in traffic signals at this time due to lack of appropriations for that purpose. <br />The changes recommended were the replacement of 10 overhead traffic lights with standard <br />curb -type signals. Also the installation of two additional signals on Lincolna Way West. The <br />-Board of�??ub7.ic Wafety expressed hearty sympat:"?y Fri th these proposals which called for experdi- <br />ture of �+P$10. <br />The South Bend Civic Safety Council therefore wished et this time to petition your honorabla <br />body to Wake such appropriations as ma.y be necessary to carry out thi's program, or at least a paz <br />of it. In general the purpose is to provide uniformity of traffic signals to eleminate confusi_er. <br />especially emong tourists motoring through' our�city. <br />
