<br />The above figures do not take into consideration the disposal of garbage
<br />after collection. The specifications bid on required that a figure Ige
<br />submitted for the disposal of garbage if the City took care of its coll-
<br />ection. The lowest bid submitted for the disposal of the garbage after
<br />collection. was $5,000, or the total cost of collection and disposal
<br />under this arrangement for the first year would be 429,512.48,
<br />After the first year deducting the cost of equipment the actual estimated
<br />cost of collection and disposal would be 24,819.20. It must be under-
<br />stood that these estimates do not take into consideration insurance, com-
<br />pensation, bonds or emergency- expenditures of any kind. Most contractors
<br />•
<br />would figure at least 20% overhead for these items.
<br />If arrangements can be made for the disposal of garbage mithout- cost to
<br />the City, collection can be taken care of for the amount set forth in
<br />the budget.
<br />If the Council decides to reject the contract that is now before it the
<br />Board of Public Works will proceed immediately to make arrangements for
<br />the collection and disposal of the garbage beginning January 1, 1935,
<br />as recommended in your report.
