CITY OF SOUTH BEND
CITY OF SOUTH BEND
South Bend, Indiana 46601
May 3, 1978
COMMON
AREA 219 284 -9321
COUNCIL
441 COUNTY -CITY BUILDING
JOSEPH T. SZYMKOWIAK
4th Floor County -City Building
Second District
South Bend, IN 466.01
TERRY S. MILLER
Third District
ROGER O. PARENT
Dear Council Members:
Fourth District
ROBERT G. TAYLOR
Fifth District
On February 25, 1978, I proposed the establishment
WALTER T. KOPCZYNSKI
of a South Bend Energy Commission. Since that time,
Sixth District
a group of interested citizens and I have met on
MARY CHRISTINE ADAMS
several occasions to discuss the proposal. The result
At Large
is a bill to establish an Energy Commission, which I
RICHARD C. DOMBROWSKI
At Large
filed with the City Clerk's office today.
FRANK HORVATH
At Large
We have found that although local governments are only
a small part of the energy picture, they can play a
major role in pioneering energy efficient procedures.
Furthermore, through general leadership and technical
assistance to smaller energy users, local government
can become a significant force in helping the community
conserve its scarce energy.
In order to make our City's operations more energy
efficient and to provide continuing local leadership
in energy conservation, I am introducing the attached
bill.
This bill would create an Energy Conservation Commission
made up of fifteen members. It would create the vehicle
which is necessary to begin making positive efforts to-
ward energy conservation.
I believe such a commission would serve our community
well, and I seek your support.
Sincerely,
RogerQp. Parent
President
ROP : j h
