— REGULAR MEF.TTNG February 27, 1967 <br />ORDINANCES, FIRST AND SECOND READING <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING TO AND BRINGING WITHIN <br />THE CITY LIMITS OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA CERTAIN <br />LANDS AND PROVIDING, AFTER ANNEXATION SHALL <br />TAKE EFFECT, THAT FOR A PERIOD OF THREE YEARS, <br />ONE HALF (2) OF THE MUNICIPAL PROPERTY TAXES <br />TO BE IMPOSED UPON THE ANNEXED TERRITORY SHALL <br />BE IMPOUNDED AND PLACED IN A SPECIAL FUND <br />SOLELY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE ANNEXED TERRITORY. <br />(Location: Ironwood Rd., Inwood Rd. and Retention Basin.) <br />The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Geib made a motion <br />that the Ordinance be placed in the Annexation Committee and that it also be simultaneously forwarded to <br />the Area Plan Commission for their study and recommendations, which recommendations are to be redirected <br />to the Annexation Committee for their report to the Council. Councilman Smith seconded the motion. Councilman Geib made a motion <br />that the Ordinance be placed in the Annexation Committee and that it also simultaneously be forwarded to <br />the Area Plan Commission for their study and recommendations, which recommendations are to be redirected <br />to the Annexation Committee for their report to the Council. Motion <br />carried. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Councilman Allen referred to a letter each Councilman had received from the Coordinating Council on Human <br />Relations. She stated that the letter requested the formation of a committee representing all people. Mrs. <br />Allen stated that the Mayor's Citizen's Advisory Committee, which has been in operation for three years, is <br />this type of committee. <br />Councilman Allen then reported that the Fire Department had answered a total of 3,048 alarms during the year <br />1966, of which 653 were false alarms. This would indicate that out;of 579 box alarms only 86 were for <br />legitimate fires. She stated that the cost for the use of a piece of fire equipment is approximately <br />a ear. r <br />$50.00 per fire, or a total of $32,650/ Ner eport was given in the hope that the citizens of South Bend, <br />aware of the excessive high cost of false fire alarms, would help in their reduction. <br />
