COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING APRIL 27, 1965
<br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole
<br />in the Council Chambers in the City Hall on Tuesday, April 27, 1965, at 8;05 P.M., with all members present
<br />except Councilmen Geib and Glass. The meeting was called to order by Councilman Edwin Thomas Smith, Chairman,
<br />who presided.
<br />Chairman Smith introduced the Reverend Clifford 0. Nantz, Executive Secretary of Council of Churches of St.
<br />Joseph County, who gave the invocation.
<br />ORDINANCE
<br />AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING TO AND BRINGING WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS
<br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, CERTAIN LANDS.
<br />(26.6 acres, more or less, East of Miami Road, South of Ireland
<br />Road, North of Jackson Road, and contiguous with the present
<br />city limits on the north and east sides)
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were
<br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking against the proposed ordinance was Mrs. Louise Goss, 59844
<br />Miami Road.
<br />Councilman Hunter made a motion that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Huszynski seconded
<br />the motion. Motion carried.
<br />ORDINANCE
<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING - ZONING ORDINANCE N0, 3702 OF THE CITY OF
<br />SOUTH BEND, AS AMENDED, FOR THE PURPOSE OF CHANGING THE ZONING
<br />OF CERTAIN LAND SITUATED WITHIN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
<br />(Southeast corner of intersection of Miami and Lincolnway East)
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were
<br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favor of the proposed ordinance was Charles Roemer,
<br />Attorney, representing all of the property owners who live within this triangular tract. Speaking against
<br />the proposed ordinance were Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Setteriand of 1221 Miami St, and Charles I Conrad of 1207 Miami St.
<br />Councilman Hunter made a motion that the ordinance be tabled for two weeks and referred back for public hearing on
<br />ORDINANCE (May 10th. Councilman Wise seconded the motion. Motion carried.
<br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 3702, AS AMENDED, WHICH
<br />ORDINANCE IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE
<br />CITY OF•SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
<br />(Tract of land having a frontage of 125 feet on Hickory Road
<br />and a depth of 200 feet)
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were
<br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Speaking in favor of the proposed ordinance was Attorney Samuel
<br />Schulman, representing petitioners along with Attorney Frederick K. Baer. John Siberell, 228 Timber Lane, asked
<br />whether the rezoning would commercialize all the property on the west side of Hickory North of McKinley.

<br />Councilman Hunter made a motion for a five minute recess. Councilman Wise seconded the .motion. Motion carried.

<br />AN ORDINANCE TO A-= ORDINANCE NO. 37022 AS AMENDED, WHICH
<br />ORDINANCE IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE
<br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
<br />(Tract of land having a frontage of 125 feet on Hickory Road
<br />and a depth of 200 feet)
<br />Councilman Hunter made a motion that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Wise seconded the
<br />motion. Motion carried.

<br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SOUTH BEND
<br />CITY WATER WORKS AND JAMES B. CLOW & SONS, INC., FOR THE
<br />PURCHASE OF CAST IRON WATER MAIN PIPES AND FITTINGS IN
<br />THE SUM OF $72,385.00.
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were
<br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon.
<br />Councilman Palmer made a motion that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Councilman Szymkowiak
<br />seconded the motion. Motion carried.
<br />ORDINANCE
<br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SOUTH BEND
<br />CITY WATER WORKS AND THE ADVANCE CONSTRUCTION CO., INC.,
<br />FOR TWO 16 -INCH INSERTING VALVES, THREE 6 -INCH INSERTING
<br />VALVES, TWO 8 -INCH INSERTING VALVES AND TWO 4 -INCH INSERTING
<br />VALVES IN THE SUM OF $93,071.00.
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were
<br />given an opportunity to be heard thereon.
<br />Councilman Hunter made a motion that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable._ Councilman Wise seconded
<br />the motion. Motion carried.
