COMFIITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING JULY 27, 1964 <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING MAXIMUM SALARIES OF APPOINTED OFFICERS <br />AND EMPLOYEES..OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR.THE <br />YEAR 1965. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were given <br />an opportunity to be heard thereon. Councilman Wise, Chairman of Fees and Salaries Committee, read a report <br />from the Committee relative to the proposed Maximum Salary Ordinance. The following persons were heard: <br />Paul Boehm, Recreation Director of the Park Department; Henry Sucher, Executive Director of the Redevelopment <br />Department; Richard A. Kirkland, 1118 Queen St., Howard Goodhue, Superintendent of Water Works; Jesse Dickinson, <br />Executive Director of South Bend Housing Authority; Miss Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of the South <br />Bend Civic Planning Association, and Ralph Newman, Superintendent of Park Department. <br />10 MINUTE RECESS - 10:10 P.M. <br />Councilman Wise made a motion for a ten minute recess. Councilman Geib seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />RECONVENED MEETING 10:33 P.M. <br />Councilman Wise read a Report from the Fees and Salaries Committee with recommended changes. After some <br />discussion, Councilman Wise made a motion that the report go to the Council favorable, as amended, as follows: <br />City Judge, Probation Officer $6,000; City Attorney, Clerk Typist $2,952; Sewer Dept., <br />Foreman $5,496; Building Dept., Secretary- Bookkeeper $4,008; Electrical & Heating <br />Inspection Dept. Asst. Heating Inspector $4,488; Weights and Measures, Inspector <br />$6,600; Deputy Inspector $4,488; Urban Redevelopment Commission, Executive Director <br />$12,000, Planner II $6,500, Clerk- Typist $3,480; Sewage Treatment Plant, Asst. Supt. <br />$7,080.00.; Water Works, Supt. $9,700 ;-Auditor $7,950; Asst. Auditor $6,400; Supervisor <br />Billing Dept. $5,720; Supervisor Collection Dept. $4,320; Clerk Collection Dept. $3,504; <br />Garage Mechanic, $5,280; Operator III $5,400; Park Dept., Supt. of Parks & Forestry <br />$8,022; Asst. Supt. $5,700; Secretary & Clerk $3,840, Zoo Kopper (Potawatomi) $4,584, <br />Greenskeeper $4,764, Florist $5,520, Asat. Florist $4,896,-Refrigeration & Pool Engineer <br />$5,000; Recreation Dept., Director of Special - Events $5,320; that Ordinance be corrected <br />by striking from Engineering Dept. the word "Traffic" after Project Engineer. <br />Councilman Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Geib made a motion to adjourn. <br />Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion.
