REPORT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY: To the Common Council May 11, 1959 Attached is a reply to the Board of Public Works and Safety from Mr. Dan W. Sabo Dear Mr. Sabo: Reply is made to your letter of April 16, 1959, requesting work projects referred from the South Bend Common Council. The following is the action taken: 1. Councilman Glass' request on the alley in the rear of 916 Roberts Street. Work has been completed. The alley was filled with gravel and graded to permit as much drainage as possible. No difficulties exist in the use of garages by residents of this area. 2. Councilman Tellson's request for checking of the crosswalk at the alley adjacent to 1101 E. Madison. We have surveyed this alley and have taken whatever corrective measures possible. The crosswalk is too high to permit proper drainage from the alley. However, a petition for paving of this alley is now in circulation under Barrett Law and seems reasonably sure of success. The paving of this alley will eliminate any problems that now exist. We are reluc- tant to rip out and lower the entrance to this alley if this paving project is being contem- plated. We have patched the crosswalk as well as possible. 3. Councilman Erler's request to correct broken pavement and elimination of water at 3314 and 3318 Addison Street. This work has been completed and situation corrected. ORDINANCE, FIRST AND SECOND READING AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 3702, AS AMENDED, WHICH ORDINANCE IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.' (West Ewing Avenue) The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Kroll made a motion that the Ordinance be set for public hearing on May 25, 1959. Councilman Erler seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE, FIRST AND SECOND READING AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 3702 (Eddy and Jefferson Boulevard) The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Erler made a motion that the Ordinance be set for public hearing on May 25, 1959. Councilman Christman seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE, FIRST AND SECOND READING AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND CERTAIN TERRITORY CONTIGUOUS THERETO (Broadmoor) The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Glass made a motion that the Ordinance be set for public hearing on May 25, 1959. Councilman Erhardt seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Kroll asked that the Committee of the Whole remain after the meeting to have a closed meeting in regard to the Clay Township Annexation. The Councilmen all agreed to remain. There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Kroll made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. Motion carried and the Council meeting adjourned at 8 :25 P.M.
