Prior to that, Zoning
and City Planning, Municipal Collection of Garbage and Trash and other related subjects. These remain continuing
responsibilities.and our committees work on them.
This year Slum Clearance and Urban Renewal has been our specific study.
On May 23, 1948 the Building Commissioner, Mr. Verner Lane, submitted an ordinance on minimum standards for buildings
ti the City Clerk for consideration and adoption by the City Council.
After meeting with members of the Council and making some changes, .it was reinstated July 24, 1958. Again no action
was taken to bring this to the Council floor for first o.nd second reading and public hearing.
A good minimum standards ordinance is a necessary tool in the Slum Clearance and Urban Renewal program as well as
the general health and welfare of the entire City. We therefore urge this Honorable body to sign this ordinance
and bring it to the Council floor for adoption.
Respectfully submitted,
/sl Mrs. John Cackley
Mrs. John Cabkley, President,
League of Women Voters of South Bend
Councilman Kroll made a motion that the communication be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Christman seconded
the motion. Motion carried.
