PETITIONS <br />Petitions bearing 514 Signatures were filed with the Clerk petitioning the South Bend Common Council to exercise <br />its legal authority to enact such legislation as is necessary to prohibit heavy industrial semi truck vehicles from <br />travel on their streets. The streets and number of signatures are as follows: <br />South Illinois Street <br />South Brookfield Street <br />Lombardy Drive <br />South Albert Street <br />South Lake Street <br />West Monroe Street <br />South Chicago Street <br />South Kenmore Street <br />South Kentucky Street <br />74 signatures <br />59 signatures <br />34 signatures <br />66 signatures <br />115 signatures <br />24 signatures <br />30 signatures <br />68 signatures <br />44 signatures <br />Also a Petition signed by Mrs. Hattie Grabarz, who canvassed South Illinois Street and asked that control be enforced II <br />of speeding on Illinois Street. <br />Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the petitions be referred to the Traffic Committee for study. Councilman Erle <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY: <br />Report to Board of Public Works and Safety from Sgt. Richard Podell, Sanitation Officer: <br />Dear Mr. Sabo: <br />On July 14th, 1958 Councilman Christman asked that an investigation be made of a complaint that people are keeping <br />chickens in their yard. The house is located off Lincolnway West, 2 blocks North and 2 blocks east of Eclipse. <br />On:July 16th and 24th an investigation was made and the above directions lead to the corner of Meade and Elwood Stree <br />I spoke to the neighbors at this location and none knew of chickens being kept in this vicinity. However, I believe <br />that someone is keeping chickens in this neighborhood and the investigation is being continued.. <br />After further information is received, a report will be submitted at the next Council Meeting. <br />Sincerely. <br />/s/ Sgt. R. J. Podell <br />Councilman Glass made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Christman seconded the <br />motion. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE: <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE N0. 3702, AS AMENDED, WHICH ORD <br />IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA (Heston - -2900 Block S.Michigan St.) <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion it should be reported favorable. <br />/s/ George Carr, Chairman. <br />Councilman Kroll made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Hahn seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE .OF THE WHOLE: <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred AN ORDINANCE ORDERING AND PROVIDING FOR THE SALE OF CERTAIN REAL <br />ESTATE IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA, WHICH SAID REAL ESTATE IS OWNED BY SAID CITY FOR USE <br />OF ITS PARK DEPARTMENT, Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion IT SHOULD <br />BE REPORTED FAVORABLE. <br />/s/ George Carr, Chairman <br />Councilman Hahn made a� motion ,that the report be accepted and placed on file. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE: <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee of the Whole, to whom was referred AN ORDINANCE TRANSFERRING FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT Q -11 - PER- <br />SONAL SERVICES THE SUM OF $9,045.15 TO FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT Q -214 - TELEPHONE $140.00, AND TO FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />ACCOUNT Q -321 - COAL $2,405.15, AND TO FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT Q -231 - GASOLINE $500.00, AND TO FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />ACCOUNT Q -712 - OTHER STRUCTURES $6,000.00; AND TRANSFERRING FROM ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT V -38 - GENERAL <br />SUPPLIES $2,500.00 TO ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT V -261 - OTHER CONTRACTUAL SERVICES, ALL OF THE BUDGET FOR THE <br />YEAR 1958:-OF THE CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY.
