<br />GENTLEMEN:
<br />WE, the sole owner of the real estate described in the attached
<br />ordinance, desire to have said real estate annexed to the City of
<br />South Bend.
<br />We are making said Petition as an accommodation to the Quarter-
<br />back, Inc., who contemplate the construction of a thirteen (13) story
<br />motel, and request that said special ordinance attached hereto for
<br />the purpose of annexing the territory be acted upon at your earliest
<br />convenience.

<br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, 1963, ALSO KNOWN AS
<br />ORDINANCE NO. 3702 AS AMENDED, THE ZONING ORDINANCES OF
<br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.

<br />Councilman Laven moved for adoption of the amendment, seconded by Councilman Janet Allen. Barrie
<br />Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that this ordinance be passed as amended. Motion seconded
<br />by Councilman Grounds. The ordinance was passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes, 1 absent
<br />(Councilman Zielinski). (8 ayes: Councilmen Laven, Allen, Reinke, Craven, Grounds, Szymkowiak,
<br />Wise and Palmer.)

<br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WATER WORKS OF
<br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND CLOW CORPORATION, BENSENVILLE,
<br />ILLINOIS, FOR THE PURCHASE OF: I. CAST IRON OR DUCTILE PIPE
<br />AND FITTINGS: II. MECHANICAL JOINT GATE VALVES, IN THE TOTAL
<br />AMOUNT OF $618,063.13.
<br />The ordinance was given third reading. Councilman Palmer made a motion that this ordinance be
<br />defeated; seQnded by Councilman Janet Allen. The ordinance was defeated by a roll call vote
<br />of 6 ayes (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Reinke, Szymkowiak, Wise, Palmer), 2 nays (Councilmen Craven
<br />and Grounds), 1 absent (Councilman Zielinski).

<br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING MAXIMUM SALARIES AND WAGES OF APPOINTED OFFICERS
<br />AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE YEAR 1972,
<br />AS AMENDED. Councilman Reinke moved for adoption of the amendment,
<br />seconded by Councilman Laven. Motion carried.
<br />This ordinance was given third reading. Councilman Craven made a motion that the ordinance be
<br />passed as amended; seconded by Councilman Reinke. The ordinance was passed by a roll call vote
<br />of 8 ayes (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Craven, Reinke, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Wise, Palmer), 1 absent
<br />(Councilman Zielinski). Councilman Grounds then made the comment that the City's professional
<br />people deserved this increase and he was sorry that it could not be raised above this level.
<br />Council President Laven stated that the Council's position was one of compromise. All agreed.

<br />NUMBERS 3913, 9 7, AND 4537 -62, A 3, OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE
<br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PROVIDING FOR STANDARDS
<br />FOR INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT GENERALLY.
<br />The ordinance was given third reading. Councilman Reinke made a motion for passage of this
<br />ordinance, seconded by Councilman Szymkowiak. The ordinance was passed by a roll call vote of
<br />8 ayes (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Craven, Reinke, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Wise, Palmer), 1 absent
<br />(Councilman Zielinski).
