COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING JANUARY 26, 1970 <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE <br />WATER WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />AND ROMP HAMMES FORDLAND FOR FOUR (4) 4 -DOOR <br />SEDANS IN THE SUM OF $7,547.93. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. John L. Hunter, Director of Utilities <br />explained that two cars were involved in accidents and ordinarily would be traded about the <br />first of June and the other two cars are in bad condition and repair costs are becoming high. <br />Councilman Palmer,moved, seconded by Councilman Zielinski, that the Ordinance go to the Council <br />as favorable. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN <br />THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA AND TEETER GMC TRUCK, INCOR- <br />PORATED OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE <br />PURCHASE OF ONE 45,000 GVW CAB AND CHASSIS <br />IN THE AMOUNT OF $10,275.00. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above,Ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. John L. Hunter, Director of Utilities <br />stated that this truck is being purchased for use with the new sewer jet vacuum catch basin <br />cleaner. It is a necessity for the unit to operate, he stated. Councilman Szymkowiak moved, <br />seconded by Councilman Wise, that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried, <br />8 ayes, (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Reinke, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Wise, Palmer, and Zielinski'. <br />1 nay, (Councilman Craven) <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN <br />THE WATER WORKS OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA AND' <br />GENERAL EQUIPMENT & MACHINE COMPANY, INCOR- <br />PORATED OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE <br />PURCHASE OF A 1970 GENERAL ENGINES EAGER <br />BEAVER TRAILER IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,870.00. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. John L. Hunter, Director of Utilities <br />explained that this Ordinance is for the purchase of a new trailer which will be used to haul <br />the crane and bulldozer to the various construction and maintenance work sites, replacing a <br />1951 Dodge Truck & Trailer which will be traded in on this unit. The Dodge unit is worn out <br />and not reliable he stated. Councilman Reinke moved, seconded by Councilman Zielinski, that <br />the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN <br />THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA AND O'BRIEN MANUFACTURING <br />COMPANY, INC., CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, FOR THE <br />PURCHASE OF ONE (1) O'BRIEN SEWERKING MODEL <br />250 SEWER RODDING MACHINE IN THE SUM OF <br />$2,171.75. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. John L. Hunter, Director of Utilities, <br />explained that this equipment will be used to clean out from the catch basin to -the sewer. it <br />will clean out roots from the catch basin to the sewer. At the present time, a small roto- rooter <br />is being used but it is old and inadequate in its performance and will be used only in an <br />emergency. Councilman Zielinski moved, seconded by Councilman Palmer, that the Ordinance go to <br />the Council as favorable. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, IDENTIFIED AS ORDINANCE NO. 4990, <br />ORDINANCE NO. 3702, AS AMENDED, TO THE EXTENT IT IS <br />STILL EFFECTIVE, AND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, SECTIONS 40 - 1 TO SECTIONS 40 - 43, <br />AS AMENDED, TO THE EXTENT IT IS STILL EFFECTIVE. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Attorney Arthur W. Frisk spoke on <br />behalf of the petitioners, Associates Discount Corporation. He asked that the area be rezoned <br />to commercial for a branch office of the Associates Discount Corp. He pointed out that the area <br />had been approved by the Area Plan Commission for this office building.construction. Councilman <br />Reinke moved, seconded by Councilman Craven, that the Ordinance go to the Council as favorable. <br />Motion carried. <br />
