DEDICATION CEREMONY - COUNTY -CITY BUILDING JANUARY 12, 1970 <br />Time: 7:57 p.m. <br />Council- President Robert O. Laven presided at the dedication ceremonies held preceeding the <br />first regular session of the South Bend Common Council in the City Chambers in the new County - <br />City Building. He said " This first meeting in this new building marks a new period for the city <br />The structure was built for tomorrow and is for you young people who will be using it long after- <br />we are forgotten. We pay you tribute and know you will build a better community." He presented <br />"South Bend All- American" certificates to student representatives of eight City tfigh schools in <br />behalf of the Citizens of the City. They were: David Kaminski, St. Joseph High School; Carol <br />Stockdale, Riley; Brian Stogdill, Adams; Greg Drover, Jackson; Barbara Milon, Central; Kent <br />Zimmerman, LaSalle; Kathy Jackson, Clay, and John Vann, Washington High School. <br />Reverend Russell A. Deitch, pastor of the First Christian Church, 320 South Main Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana gave the invocation. <br />Council- President Laven reviewed the accomplishments of the Council in 1969 and outlined the <br />goals for 1970. They are: <br />1. To promote lines of communication with all the citizens of South Bend. <br />2. To enlarge the City in an orderly and well planned manner through annexation. <br />3. To revise and update local ordinances. This would include building codes, plumb- <br />ing and electrical codes, and local council operating procedures. <br />4.1 To increase our involvment in our on -going drive to effectively reduce crime <br />in our city. <br />
