REGULAR MEETING JULY 14, 1969 <br />RESOLUTION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 215 -69 <br />A RESOLUTION APPOINTING TWO DIRECTORS TO <br />THE SOUTH BEND TRANSPORTATION CORPORATION <br />AND FIXING THEIR INITIAL TERMS OF OFFICE, <br />AS AMENDED. <br />WHEREAS, under the provisions <br />Indiana, passed by the Common Council o <br />the 13th day of June, 1967 and pursuant <br />General Assembly for 1965, Chapter 337, <br />Council to appoint two residents of the <br />South Bend Transportation Corporation. <br />of Ordinance No. <br />z the 12th day of <br />to the authority <br />Section 12, page <br />City of South Be: <br />4926 -67 of the City of South Bend, <br />June, 1967 and signed by the Mayor on <br />contained in the acts of the Indiana <br />994, it is the duty of the Common <br />ad to the Board of Directors of the <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />that the following residents of the City of South Bend are hereby appointed as directors of the <br />South Bend Transportation Commission by the Common Council of the City of South Bend for a term <br />of years as set forth after their respective names: <br />John F. Kasprzak shall be one of such directors and is reappointed for a <br />period of four years. <br />Bernard White,(Jr) shall be one of such directors and shall fill the unexpired term <br />of Adam S. Arnold, until August 15, 1972. <br />and all of such appointments shall be effective from the third day of July, 1969 and the first <br />day of July, 1969, respectively. <br />/s/ Fredrick D. Craven <br />A public hearing was then held on the Resolution. Councilman Allen made a motion that the <br />name of Director White be amended to read Bernard White, Jr.. Councilman Grounds seconded the <br />motion. Motion carried. <br />City Controller James A. Bickel commented that a meeting of the Transportation Corp. was held <br />recently and Mr. White participated and appeared to have ,an active interest in the Corporation. <br />Councilman Allen moved that the resolution be adopted^ e'&%Yitilman Szymkowiak seconded the motion, <br />Motion carried. The resolution passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes; 0 nays, 1 absent, (Council - <br />man;Laven) <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />Councilman Raymond Zielinski read the following report from the Minority members of the <br />Redistricting Committee: <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />The Minority members of the Redistricting Committee, Walter Szymkowiak and Raymond C. Zielinski: <br />To whom was referred "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORD. #3232, ADOPTED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, THEREAFTER AMENDED AND AS ADOPTED AND CODIFIED OCT. 14, 1963, <br />COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE COUNCILMANIC DISTRICT ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND" <br />Respectfully report that we have examined the matter and that in our opinion: the Ordinance be <br />adopted as filed. Further, we recommend that a Public Hearing on the Ordinance be held on <br />July 28, 1969. <br />/s/ Raymond C. Zielinski <br />/s/ Walter M. Szymkowiak <br />Councilman Grounds made a motion that the report be accepted and be set for public hearing on <br />July 28, 1969. Councilman Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />NEW BUSINESS" <br />City Engineer Lloyd Taylor answered Councilman Allen's inquiries concerning the bagging of <br />parking meters in the downtown district by contractors while construction work is going on. <br />He explained that the City charges the contractor $1.00 per day or- _$4.00 a week while construction <br />is underway. He explained that whenever a walkway is erected around the building, there is <br />no charge to the contractor. <br />Councilman Reinke moved that the Council instruct the Clerk to write a letter of appropriate <br />communication to Mr. Charles VanDeVeire, Superintendent of the Park Department, concerning his <br />present illness and wish him a speedy recovery. Councilman Grounds seconded the motion and it <br />was unanimously approved by the Council. <br />Councilman Allen commented on a recent newspaper article and picture showing young people on <br />Marietta and Ohio Streets cutting the weeds in their neighborhood. She praised their efforts, <br />and she said more people should follow their example. <br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Allen made a motion that <br />the meeting be adjourned.
