<br />Mr. Jack C. Dunfee, Jr., attorney for the petitioners, indicated that he would require only a few
<br />minutes for his presentation, and he was hopeful that the Council would set the matter for public
<br />hearing on September 10. Councilman Parent made a motion that the ordinance referred to in the
<br />report be set for public hearing and second reading on September 10, 1973, seconded by Councilman
<br />Kopczynski. The motion carried.

<br />Councilman Newburn made a motion to waive the report of the Director of the Department of Public
<br />Safety, seconded by Councilman Horvath. The motion carried by a roll call vote of nine ayes
<br />(Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, Miller, Parent, Taylor, Kopczynski, Horvath, Newburn and Nemeth).

<br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE FISCAL
<br />YEAR BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 1974, AND ENDING

<br />RESOLUTIONS
<br />RESOLUTION NO. 382 -73
<br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SENSE OF THE
<br />COUNCIL REGARDING PUBLIC HOUSING WEST OF
<br />MICHIGAN STREET.
<br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council has heretofore expressed its opposition
<br />to the erection of any more public housing units in the part of the city West of
<br />Michigan Street until more units are erected East of Michigan, and
<br />WHEREAS, the city's Workable Program called for the orderly replenishing of
<br />the city's housing supply through the promotion and development of both public and
<br />private housing, and
<br />WHEREAS, the Council now views the construction of public housing on Council
<br />approved scattered sites within the city West of Michigan as being consistant with
<br />and an integral part of its program on balancing public housing in the various areas
<br />of the city.
