______________ _______ ___ ,_________________ =__ = = = = =ii REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 24, 1972 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana met in the Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, January 24, 1972 at 8 :01 p.m. The meeting was called to order by President Peter J. Nemeth who then asked everyone to stand and give the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, Miller, Parent, Taylor, Kopczynski, Horvath, Newburn and Nemeth. ABSENT: None RESOLVE INTO THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE Council President Nemeth entertained a motion to resolve into the Committee of the Whole. Councilman Parent so moved, seconded by Councilman Miller. Motion carried. COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana met in the Committee of the Whole in the Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, January 24, 1972 at 8:02 p.m. with nine members present. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Odell Newburn, who presided. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA AND WORTHINGTON CORPORATION OF NORTHBROOK, ILLINOIS, FOR THE REPAIR OF TWO DIESEL ENGINES IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,602.00. This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. David A. Wells, Assistant City Engineer, gave a slide presentation showing the engines and blowers at the Plant. The problem is one of erosion and, if not corrected, the engines might have to be replaced. Replacement costs would be $250,000 for one engine and $150,000 for the other. The engines have been in continuous use for the past 16 years. Also speaking for the ordinance and answering questions
