REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 10, 1972 <br />REGULAR MEETING - (Continued) <br />ORDINANCES, FIRST AND SECOND READING (Continued) <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE OFFICE OF THE <br />DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />This Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Newburn <br />made a motion that this Ordinance be referred to the Ways and Means Committee for further study. <br />Councilman Kopczynski seconded the motion and it was unanimously carried. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 5375 -72 <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING ALL PARKING METER <br />FEES AND FUNDS FOR THE YEAR 1972 TO THE BOARD <br />OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CIVIL CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA FOR THE USES AND PURPOSES <br />SET FORTH THEREIN, IN ACCORDANCE WITH CHAPTER <br />208 OF THE ACTS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE <br />STATE OF INDIANA OF 1965. <br />This Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman <br />Szymkowiak made a motion for suspension of the rules to allow a public hearing and the third <br />reading of the proposed ordinance at this meeting. Councilman Serge seconded the motion. The <br />motion passed by a roll call vote of nine ayes (Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, Miller, Parent, <br />Taylor, Kopczynski, Horvath, Newburn and Nemeth), 0 nays. This being the time set for public <br />hearing on the above ordinance proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard <br />thereon. James Barcome, City Controller, explained that this ordinance was similar to the one <br />passed last year and that it was necessary in order to pay the salaries to employees of the <br />department on January 20th. Miss Guthrie questioned the total amount of the appropriation as <br />some parking meters have been removed by the city and also questioned the amount for Motor <br />Equipment. Mr. Barcome said that the car is in need of repairs and they will check closely <br />before replacing it. At the conclusion of the public hearing, the ordinance was given third <br />reading. Councilman Szymkowiak moved for passage of the ordinance, seconded by Councilman <br />Taylor. The ordinance passed by a roll call vote of nine ayes (Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, <br />Miller, Parent, Taylor, Kopczynski, Horvath, Newburn and Nemeth), 0 nays. <br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Parent made a motion to <br />adjourn, seconded by Councilman Miller.
