REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 26, 1979 <br />REGULAR MEETING RECONVENED (CONTINUED) <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, hereby fully supports <br />"South Bend Energy Awareness Days" organized for the week of March 12 -18 by the South Bend <br />Energy Conservation Commission. <br />SECTION II. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption <br />by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s /Roger 0. Parent <br />Member of the Common Council <br />A public hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Council Member Serge chaired this <br />portion of the.meeting. Council President Parent indicated this resolution was an attempt <br />to make more people aware of the problems we face now and in the future. Mr. Sidney Wolf, <br />Chairman of the South Bend Energy Commission, inidcated this was the first public function <br />and they expected this to be the start of many good things to come in the future. He explained <br />the different functions that would take place during Energy Week. Council Member Kopczynski <br />indicated he thought the Administration, as well as the Council, should come up with some <br />energy saving ideas for the City. Council Member Taylor made a motion to adopt this resolution, <br />seconded by Council Member Adams. The resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of nine ayes. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 685 -79 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUBMIT GRANT APPLICATIONS <br />TO THE INDIANA COMMITTEE FOR THE HUMANITIES FOR THE YOUTH <br />SERVICE BUREAU OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of South Bend is the Chief Executive Officer of the City, <br />and is the Applicant for funding of any grant applications which may be made by the City of <br />South Bend, Indiana. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana <br />that: <br />SECTION I. The Mayor of.the City of South Bend is hereby authorized to submit an applica- <br />tion for funding in the amount of $6,550.00 to the Indiana Committee for the Humanities, for <br />funding of a program focusing on ethnic and neighborhood awareness to be oeprated by the Youth <br />Service Bureau in conjunction with its summer fun program. <br />SECTION II. The Executive Director of the Youth Service Bureau shall be designated the <br />Administrative Agent for this grant. For every category established under this Resolution, the <br />Mayor shall submit to the Common Council a line item budget prior to the expenditures of any <br />grant money received upon approval of this application. <br />SECTION III. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption <br />by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s /Mary Christine Adams <br />Member of the Common Council <br />A public hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Mr. Pat Flemming, Director of Recreatic <br />for the Youth Service Bureau, indicated they were requesting this grant of $6,500, in order to <br />complement the rich tradition of the Summer Fun Program with a focus on neighborhood and ethnic <br />awareness. He said the Summer Fun Program will be involved in various humanities activities <br />including oral and written histories, creative writing, dramatic presentations and community <br />forums. Council Member Adams made a motion to adopt this resolution, seconded by Council <br />Member Serge. The resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of nine ayes. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 686 -79 <br />A RESOLUTION TO FILE AN APPLICATION TO THE INSTITUTE OF <br />MUSEUMS SERVICES. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Knuth Bend, Indiana, Department of Public Parks is desirous in up- <br />grading information on the many species at Potawatomi Zoo by the way of improved graphics, <br />either by sign or an audio system, and <br />WHEREAS, funds are needed for such a project. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />that permission is hereby given to the Department of Public Parks to submit an application to <br />the Institute of Museums Services for funds to improve the graphics program at Potawatomi Zoo. <br />This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common <br />Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s /Mary Christine Adams <br />Member of the Common Council <br />A public hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Mr. James Seitz, Superintendent of <br />Public Parks, indicated that this grant request of $14,421.83, would be used to hire a person, <br />purchase equipment and supplies to establish a program of graphics (transfer information) either <br />by sign or audio for the many animal species at the zoo. Council Member Kopczynski made a motion <br />to adopt this resolution, seconded by Council Member Dombrowski. The resolution was adopted by <br />a roll call vote of nine ayes. <br />
