4+ ...++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + + +_..... + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + ++ <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 5, 1976 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council Chambers of <br />the County -City Building on Monday, January 5, 1976, at 8:00 p.m., Councilman Taylor presiding. <br />The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL PRESENT: Council Members Serge, Szymkowiak, Miller, Parent, <br />Taylor, Kopczynski, Adams, Dombrowski, Horvath. <br />ABSENT: None <br />ELECTION OF COUNCIL OFFICERS <br />Councilman Szymkowiak nominated Councilman Walter Kopczynski for President of the Common Council, <br />seconded by Councilwoman Adams. Councilman Serge nominated Councilman Roger O. Parent for Pre - <br />sident of the Common Council, seconded by Councilman Horvath. Councilwoman Adams moved the <br />nominations be closed and to proceed with a roll call vote, seconded by Councilman Szymkowiak. <br />The motion carried. Councilman Parent was re- elected Common Council President by a roll call <br />vote of six (Councilmen Serge, Miller, Parent, Taylor, Dombrowski, and Horvath). Councilman <br />Kopczynski received three votes (Councilmen Szymkowiak, Kopczynski, and Councilwoman Adams). <br />Council President Parent thanked the City Council for electing him the second time. He indicated! <br />that many people were concerned about the Council and whether or not they will work with the <br />Mayor. He indicated his commitment, and he was sure the rest of the Council's, is to a strong, <br />independent Council that will work for the best of the city. He said that whatever politics the <br />Council gets involved in will be the kind of politics which works towards broadest goals for the <br />most people. <br />Councilman Kopczynski nominated Councilman Walter Szymkowiak for Vice President of the Council, <br />seconded by Councilwoman Adams. Councilman Horvath nominated Councilman Richard Dombrowski for <br />Vice_ President, seconded by Councilman Serge. Councilman Taylor moved the nominations be closed <br />and to proceed with the vote, seconded by Councilman Horvath. The motion carried. Councilman <br />Dombrowski was elected Vice President of the Common Council with a roll call of five votes <br />(Councilmen Serge, Taylor, Parent, Dombrowski, and Horvath). Councilman Szymkowiak received <br />four votes (Councilmen Szymkowiak, Miller, Kopczynski, and Councilwoman Adams). <br />Councilman Szymkowiak nominated Councilman Kopczynski for Chairman of the Committee of the Whole, <br />Councilman Kopczynski declined. Councilman Serge nominated Councilman Horvath for Chairman of <br />the Committee of the Whole, seconded by Councilman Dombrowski. Councilman Szymkowiak nominated <br />Councilwoman Adams for Chairman of the Committee of the Whole, Councilwoman_ Adams declined. <br />Councilman Taylor moved the nominations be closed, seconded by Councilman Dombrowski. The motion <br />carried. Council President Parent entertained a motion to elect Councilman Horvath Chairman of <br />the Committee of the Whole unanimously, seconded by Councilman Kopczynski. The motion carried. <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB- COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your sub- committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would <br />respectfully report that it has inspected the minutes of the December 15, 1975 <br />meeting of the Council and found them correct. <br />The sub- committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved. <br />S/ Roger 0.
