South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting -July 18, 2008 <br />6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.) <br />A. Public Hearing <br />(1) continued... <br />interested people and stakeholders about <br />what they would like the East Bank to <br />become. The purpose of that process was to <br />create a plan for a mixed use, thriving urban <br />neighborhood that was realistic enough to be <br />implemented. <br />The plan envisions the area between Colfax, <br />LaSalle, Sycamore and the river as an arts <br />and culture district. That area already has <br />many such uses and the participants wanted <br />to strengthen and expand those uses in that <br />area. <br />Hill Street contains some technology and <br />medical uses. The stakeholders wish to see <br />more of those uses in that part of the area. <br />There are pockets of retail on Jefferson at <br />Niles and near the Niles/LaSalle intersection. <br />These should also be strengthened and <br />invigorated. <br />There are some office buildings at Colfax <br />and Niles Avenues, and the participants <br />would like to see some more office buildings <br />of that size near that intersection. <br />Finally, the Rink Riverside site and the <br />Wharf site, right on the river, have potential <br />to be very special sites. On the Rink site, the <br />plan shows medium density residential; on <br />the Wharf site a higher density residential <br />development, possibly a flag hotel. <br />Mr. Phair noted that the stakeholders <br />14 <br />
