68
REGULAR MEETING JULY 14, 1975
REGULAR MEETING — RECONVENED (CONTINUED)
of some of the police officers in recent weeks which was allegedly attributed to the lack of air -
conditioning in the squad cars. She felt that, all of a sudden, there was no further mention of
that illness, and she indicated that, if the officers continued to park their cars at the various
ball parks in the city and watch the ball games with the cars running, they would continue to be
ill. Police Officer William Coar indicated that several officers had been taken ill over the last
week despite the fact that there had been no mention of it. Mrs. Swan indicated that there were
1,400 city employees. She wondered if all those employees were paid from city funds or from
federal revenue sharing and other programs. Councilman Horvath indicated that some of those
employees were paid from the Water Works and other utility budgets, etc. Mr. Walter Lantz,
Deputy Controller, indicated that there were 1,400 regular full -time employees including utility
employees, Park Department employees and some federal programs such as Community Development and
Manpower. In addition, there were part -time employees on the summer programs, about 600 pensioner,
etc. He stated that there were probably around 3,000 paychecks issued. Mrs. Swan talked about thi
population of South Bend and the ratio of city employees to citizens. She asked again about the
status of the Delos House operation and its moving to the new location on Frances Street. Councils
Serge indicated that the move would take place in about a week, and the money appropriated
previously was expected to cover all the expenses.
There being no further business to come before the Council, unfinished or new, Councilman Taylor
made 'a motion to adjourn, seconded by Councilman Serge. The motion carried, and the meeting
adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
ATTEST •
CITY CLERK
+++++++++++++++++++++++++ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + ++
APPROVED
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + ++
