sue- i <br />REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 5, 1983 <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council hopes that Councilman McGann will continue to stay <br />active in public service activities and will continue to contribute his thoughts and <br />ideas in making South Bend a better place to live and work. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, and in particular <br />the citizens of the Fourth District, the Common Council hereby publicly commends and <br />thanks Councilman Lewis A. McGann for his four years of dedicated public service as <br />Fourth District Councilman. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges Councilman McGann's many <br />contributions to improve the quality of life in South Bend, and wishes him, his wife <br />Kathy, and their children, continued good fortune in the years ahead. <br />SECTION III. Taylor <br />Council Member Voorde read this resolution. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1103 -83 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, COMMENDING THE "DEAN OF THE COUNCIL" WALTER M. <br />SZYMKOWIAK FOR HIS TWENTY YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE <br />AS SECOND DISTRICT COUNCILMAN. <br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council notes with pride the twenty (20) years of <br />dedicated and faithful service which Councilman Walter M. Szymkowiak has given to the <br />citizens of South Bend and in particular the citizens of the Second District; and <br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council recognizes that in his five (5) terms as <br />the Second District Councilman he has served in many leadership positions, some of <br />which include: Vice President; Chairman of the Committee of the Whole; Chairman of <br />the Parks and Recreation Committee; Public Works Committee; Utilities Committee; Vice <br />President of the South Bend Economic Development Commission; and Board Member of the <br />South Bend Development Corporation; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council recognizes many important projects in the Second District <br />which Councilman Szymkowiak was instrumental in, such as, several lighting and street <br />improvements, new storm sewers in the Model Cities Neighborhood, the completion of <br />the West LaSalle, West Colfax, and West Orange Street connector, the widening of <br />Bendix Drive and Ardmore Trail, the building of the LaSalle Square Mall, the new <br />public library at LaSalle Square and his countless hours of service on behalf of the <br />Save -A -Life Fund; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilman Szymkowiak's tireless efforts and hard work are just some of <br />the fine qualities of this dedicated public servant who has truly earned the title of <br />"Dean of the Council." <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,Indianz <br />as follows: <br />SECTION I. On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, and in particular <br />the citizens of the Second District, the Common Council hereby publicly commends <br />Walter M. Szymkowiak for his twenty (20) years of dedicated public service to our <br />City. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges that through Councilman <br />Szymkowiak's many contributions he has truly left an indelible mark on improving the <br />quality of life through our City. <br />SECTION III. The Common Council wishes Councilman Szymkowiak and his wife Harriet <br />continued good fortune in the years ahead, and acknowledges a job well done by saying <br />"Dziekuje" from the bottom of our hearts. <br />
