REGULAR MEETING <br />DECEMBER 5, 1983 <br />'Srq 9 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council <br />Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, December 12, 1983, at 7:00 p.m. The <br />meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Szymkowiak McGann, Taylor, <br />Zielinski, Crone, Harris, Voorde and Beck <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your sub - committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would res- <br />pectfully report that it has inspected the minutes of the November 28, meeting of the <br />Council and found them correct. <br />The sub - committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved. <br />/ / Beverlie J. Crone <br />Council Member McGann made a motion that the minutes of the November 28, meeting of <br />the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member Serge. The <br />motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1100 -83 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA COMMENDING <br />JOHN J. HARRIS, JR. FOR HIS DEDICATED PUBLIC <br />SERVICE AS A SOUTH BEND COUNCILMAN -AT -LARGE <br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council notes with pride the evening of July 15, <br />1982, when John J. Harris, Jr. won the special election by Precinct Committeemen to <br />fill a vacated Council seat; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana recognizes that <br />John J. Harris, Jr. has diligently served the citizens of South Bend as a Councilman - <br />at -Large since his election; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilman Harris has chaired the Public Safety Committee of the Common <br />Council and has served on all issues presented to him; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilman Harris has established a reputation of fairness and willingness <br />to listen to persons on all issues presented to him; and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council hopes that Councilman Harris will continue to stay <br />active in public life and will continue to let his voice be heard on such important <br />topics as affirmative action policies, downtown development, and other civic projects. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council <br />hereby publicly commends and thanks Councilman John J. Harris, Jr. for his dedicated <br />public service as a Councilman -at- Large. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges Councilman Harris, contribution: <br />to help improve the City of South Bend, and wishes him and his wife of 42 years, <br />Allean, continued good fortune in the years ahead, and hopes that he will continue to <br />share his special concern for this community with each of us. <br />SECTION III.
