17FI <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 23, 1983 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met <br />in the Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, May 23, <br />1983, at 7:OO p.m. The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to <br />the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Szymkowiak McGann, Taylor, <br />Zielinski, Crone, Harris, Voorde and Beck <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT,�FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your sub- committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would res- <br />pectfully report that it has inspected the minutes of the May 9, 1983, meeting of the <br />Council and found them correct. <br />The sub - committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved. <br />4s4 Beverlie J. Crone <br />Council Member Serge made a motion that the minutes of the May 9, 1983, meeting of <br />the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member Zielinski. <br />The motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />Council President Beck indicated that the May 23 meeting of the Common Council would <br />be aired on Cable Channel 3, May 24, at 7:00 p.m. <br />Council President Beck indicated that an informal meeting concerning the "Violin <br />Woman" would be held on June 27, 1983, at 4:00 p.m., in the Chambers. <br />Council Member Harris made a motion to suspend the rules and have public hearing on a <br />resolution, seconded by Council Member Zielinski. The motion carried on a roll call <br />vote of nine ayes. <br />RESOLUTION NO..1055 -83 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING MARCHMONT KOVAS FOR HIS MANY YEARS <br />OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO OUR COMMUNITY AS THE CITY GOVERNMENT <br />WRITER FOR THE SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE. <br />WHEREAS, Marchmont Kovas has been employed by the South Bend Tribune since March <br />of 1940; and <br />WHEREAS, Marchmont Kovas began as a general assignment reporter and then was <br />promoted to the "City Hall Beat" in November of 1963; and <br />WHEREAS, for the past twenty (20) years, Marchmont Kovas has brought objectivety <br />and the highest standards of professional journalism in his reporting of South Bend <br />City Government. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council, on behalf of all of the citizens of South Bend, <br />publicly commends and thanks South Bend Tribune writer Marchmont Kovas for his more <br />than forty years of dedicated service to our Community. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges the many contributions to <br />our Community through his thoughtful and factual writings, and wishes him and his <br />family continued good fortune in the years ahead. <br />SECTION III.
