17FI REGULAR MEETING MAY 23, 1983 Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, May 23, 1983, at 7:OO p.m. The meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Szymkowiak McGann, Taylor, Zielinski, Crone, Harris, Voorde and Beck Absent: None REPORT,�FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: Your sub- committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would res- pectfully report that it has inspected the minutes of the May 9, 1983, meeting of the Council and found them correct. The sub - committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved. 4s4 Beverlie J. Beck Isl Beverly D. Crone Council Member Serge made a motion that the minutes of the May 9, 1983, meeting of the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member Zielinski. The motion carried. SPECIAL BUSINESS Council President Beck indicated that the May 23 meeting of the Common Council would be aired on Cable Channel 3, May 24, at 7:00 p.m. Council President Beck indicated that an informal meeting concerning the "Violin Woman" would be held on June 27, 1983, at 4:00 p.m., in the Chambers. Council Member Harris made a motion to suspend the rules and have public hearing on a resolution, seconded by Council Member Zielinski. The motion carried on a roll call vote of nine ayes. RESOLUTION NO..1055 -83 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING MARCHMONT KOVAS FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO OUR COMMUNITY AS THE CITY GOVERNMENT WRITER FOR THE SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE. WHEREAS, Marchmont Kovas has been employed by the South Bend Tribune since March of 1940; and WHEREAS, Marchmont Kovas began as a general assignment reporter and then was promoted to the "City Hall Beat" in November of 1963; and WHEREAS, for the past twenty (20) years, Marchmont Kovas has brought objectivety and the highest standards of professional journalism in his reporting of South Bend City Government. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: SECTION I. The Common Council, on behalf of all of the citizens of South Bend, publicly commends and thanks South Bend Tribune writer Marchmont Kovas for his more than forty years of dedicated service to our Community. SECTION II. The Common Council publicly acknowledges the many contributions to our Community through his thoughtful and factual writings, and wishes him and his family continued good fortune in the years ahead.
