J3 5 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 28, 1983 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council <br />Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, March 28, 1983, at 7:00 p.m. The <br />meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Szymkowiak McGann, Taylor, <br />Zielinski, Crone, Harris, Voorde and Beck <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your sub - committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would res- <br />pectfully report that it has inspected the minutes of the March 14, 1983, meeting of <br />the Council and found them correct. <br />The sub - committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved. <br />/s/ Lewis A. Crone <br />Council Member Serge made a motion that the minutes of the March 14, 1983, meeting of <br />the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council Member Zielinski. <br />The motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1035 -83 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING THE YOUTH ACTION TEAM FOR ITS <br />DEDICATION AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO CIVIC ACIVITES <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend recognizes the Youth Action <br />Team has been involved with the crusade to remove the Violin Woman Sculpture from <br />atop the water fountain in front of the Morris Civic Auditorium; and <br />WHEREAS, the Youth Action Team has gathered hundreds of signatures in a petition <br />urging that the sculpture be relocated to a grassy knoll near the water fountain; and <br />WHEREAS, the Youth Action Team believes that the Violin Woman Sculpture blocks <br />the main water jets of the fountain which severely alter one of the most beautiful <br />fountains in South Bend; and <br />WHEREAS, through the work of the Youth Action Team and Mark Kurowski, a special <br />committee has been appointed to take a comprehensive and detailed review of the location <br />of the Violin Woman Sculpture. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council commends the Youth Actin Team for its energy and <br />efforts to have their voice heard on the location of the Violin Woman Sculpture. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council further commends the Youth Action Team and Mark <br />Kurowski for working with and through the civic processon this community activity. <br />SECTION III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its adoption by theCommon Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />Is/ Raymond C. Zielinski <br />Member of the Common Council <br />A public hearing was held on the resolution at this time. Council Member Zielinski <br />read the resoltuion. Mark Kurowski, 1227 Congress, thanked the Council for the resolution, <br />and all the members of the Youth Action Team for their hard work and dedication. <br />Irene Mutzl, 320 Parkovash, indicated she agreed with this resolution. Ron Radecki, <br />123 S. St. Peter, representing Southold, spoke in support of moving the Violin Woman. <br />John Leszczynski, City Engineer, indicated he was looking forward to being on the <br />committee with Mark. Council Member Taylor made a motion to adopt this resolution, <br />seconded by Council Member Zielinski. The resolution was adopted by a roll call vote <br />of nine ayes. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1036 -83 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMEMORATING THE MANY CONTRIBUTIONS MADE TO <br />OUR COMMUNITY BY THE LATE HERBERT G. BUTLER, DIRECTOR OF THE <br />SOUTH BEND SYMPHONY <br />
