I <br />RESOLUTION NO. 980 -82 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUBMIT TO THE <br />NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES AN APPLICATION FOR A <br />CHALLENGE GRANT. <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of South Bend is the Chief Executive Officer of <br />the City and is the applicant for National Endowment for the Humanities Funds <br />forDiscovery Hall. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA: <br />SECTION I. That the Mayor is authorized to submit an application for a Challenge <br />Grant to< hle'National;Endowment for the Humanities that will match one federal dollar <br />for every three dollars raised by the museum and its support organization. <br />SECTION III. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and <br />after its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Lewis A. Gust Saros, Director of <br />Discovery Hall, indicated this application if funded will give $1 for every $3 raised <br />by the museum. He indiated there was minimum match required. Council Member Serge <br />made a motion to adopt this resolution, seconded by Council Member Szymkowiak. The <br />resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of nine ayes. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 981 -82 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, PLEDGING FULL SUPPORT AND COOPERATION TO THE <br />REGISTERED CITIES AND TOWNS PROGRAM, AND AUTHORIZING THE <br />MAYOR TO SUBMIT THE SURVEY INFORMATION REQUESTED BY THE <br />PROGRAM. <br />WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, Indiana, has a continuing interest in the <br />economic strength and development of this community; and <br />WHEREAS, a primary method of increasing economic strength and development is <br />the attraction of new business and industry to the area; and <br />WHEREAS, the Lieutenant Governor's office has developed a new program entitled <br />Registered Cities and Towns Program, that should prove useful in attracting new <br />business and industry to the area; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is the chief executive <br />officer-of the City. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by theCommon Council of the CIty of South Bend, <br />Indiana: <br />SECTION I. That the City of South Bend pledges its full support and cooperation <br />to the Registered Cities and Towns Program. <br />SECTION II. That the Mayor of the City of South Bend is hereby authorized to <br />submit the survey information requested by the Registered Cities and Towns Program. <br />SECTION III. That the Mayor of the City of South Bend is hereby authorized to <br />participate fully in the Registered Cities and Towns program. <br />SECTION IV. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and <br />after its adoption by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Lewis A. Jon Hunt, Director of <br />Redevelopment, indicated this program should prove helpful to cities and towns which <br />are attempting to attract new business and industry to their area. He indicated the <br />program will have an extensive survey regarding population, location, existing employers, <br />transporation, etc. Council Member Serge made a motion to adopt this resolution, <br />seconded by Council Member Beck. The resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of <br />nine ayes. <br />
