That the Common Council requests the City Clerk to submit this <br />Resolution a ong with supporting data to the Area Plan Commission for its written <br />order approving or disapproving this resolution. <br />SECTION III. That the Common Council directs the City Clerk, upon receipt of <br />the report of the Area Plan Commission to cause notice of the adoption of this resoluti <br />to be published, said publication providing notice of the public hearing before the <br />Common Council on said declaration. <br />SECTION IV. Ernest Szarwark, attorney <br />representing the petitioner, indicatdd they planned to remodel lthe building, and <br />there would be four new jobs created. Council Member Szymkowiak made a motion to <br />adopt this resolution, seconded by Council member Beck. The resolution was adopted <br />by a roll call vote of nine ayes. <br />RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND DESIGNATING CERTAIN AREAS WITHIN THE CITY COMMONLY <br />KNOWN AS 119 NORTH MICHIGAN AS AN URBAN DEVELOPMENT AREA <br />FOR PURPOSES OF TAX ABATEMENT CONSIDERATION. <br />A public hearing was held on the resolution at this time. John Hunt, Director of <br />Redevelopment, indicated this proposed tax abatement did not receive a recommendation <br />for the Commission. He indicated they did not meet the requirements for tax abatement <br />prior to receiving a building permit. Council Member Voorde indicated that while <br />the Council is trying to encourage revitalization in the core of the central city, <br />and the petitioners were told to file their petition for abatement prior to applying <br />for a building permit. He indicted they did not comply, and therefore, the Human <br />Resources Committee gave an unfavorable recommendation on the petition. Council <br />member*Voorde made a motion that this resolution of be adopted, seconded by Council <br />Member Taylor. The motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 979 -82 <br />A RESOLUTION URGING A CONTINUATION OF SERVICE TO ST. JOSEPH <br />COUNTY BY THE SOUTH SHORE RAILROAD AND URGING RELOCATION OF <br />THE SOUTH SHORE STATION TO THE MICHIGANA REGIONAL AIRPORT. <br />WHEREAS, the City of South Bend acknowledges that consideration as been given <br />to the possibility of discontinuing service by the Chicago, South Shore and South <br />Bend Railroad to South Bend and St. Joseph County; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of South Bend recognizes the importance of continued South <br />Shore service to the City of South Bend and the St. Joseph County area as a vital <br />rail link between this area and points west, including Chicago; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CIY OF SOUTH BEND: <br />SECTION I. The City of South Bend urges a determination by the Northern <br />Indiana Commuter Transportation District to continue service by the South Shore <br />Railroad to the City of South Bend and St. Joseph County. <br />SECTION II. The City of South Bend urges a decision by the Northern Indiana <br />Commuter Transportation District to relocted the Suth Shore Station from its present <br />site to the Michigana Regional Airport. <br />SECTION III. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />/s/ Lewis A. Mayor <br />that - continuation of South Shore service to our area is an import <br />link to locations to the west. He indicated that the relocation <br />Station of the Michiana Regional Airport will provide additional <br />transportation center and should result in increased support for <br />residents of this area. Kathryn Brookins, 701 W. Lasalle, spoke <br />South Shore Station. Council Member Szymkowiak made a motion to <br />seconded by CouncilMember Taylor.
