21 7 63 <br />REGULAR MEETING APRIL 26, 1982 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 26, 1982 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Council <br />Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, April 26, 1982, at 7:00 p.m. The <br />meeting was called to order and the Pledge to the.Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL Present: Council Members Serge, Szymkowiak Beck, Taylor, <br />Zielinski, Crone, Dombrowski, Voorde and McGann <br />Absent: None <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB - COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your sub - committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would res- <br />pectfully report that it has inspected the minutes of the March 22, 1982, meeting of <br />the Council and found them correct. <br />The sub - committee, therefore, recommends that the same be approved. <br />/s/ Lewis A. McGann <br />/s /Raymond Zielinski <br />Council Member Serge made a motion that the minutes of the March 22, and April 8, <br />1982, meetings of the Council be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Council <br />Member Dombrowski. The motion carried. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />Council Member Beck made a motion to have public hearing on resolution 9A, seconded <br />by Council Member Taylor. The motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 952 -81 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMENDING DR. JAMES E. BOWES OF THE ST. <br />JOSEPH COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND OTHER CONCERNED INDIVI- <br />DUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN THE 1982 ANTI - <br />MOSQUITO CAMPAIGN FOR THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />WHEREAS, Dr. James E. Bowes, Health Officer, of the St. Joseph County Health <br />Department, oversaw the 1982 Anti - Mosquito Campaign for the City of South Bend; and <br />WHEREAS, the two -day tire pickup program held March 26th and 27th was designed <br />to eliminate old tires which have been shown to be potential breeding areas for mos- <br />quitoes and other insects by the studies conducted by Professor George Craig of the <br />University of Notre Dame; and <br />WHEREAS, within this two -day period 3,725 tires were collected at four sites <br />throughout the City which were each manned by two St. Joseph County Health Department <br />employees; and <br />WHEREAS, Baker Rubber, Inc. donated four trucks to assist in this operation by <br />collecting and disposing of the tires; and <br />WHEREAS, McDonald's Inc. donated over 3,000 coupons for free "big Mac" sand- <br />whiches for individuals turning in three or more tires; and <br />WHEREAS, through the cooperation of all of these individuals and organizations <br />the 1982 Anti - Mosquito Campaign for the City of South Bend was a hugh success. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, commends Dr. <br />James E. Bowes and all of the members of the staff of the St. Joseph County Health <br />Department who participated in the successful Anti - Mosquito Campaign for the City. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council commends Baker Rubber, Inc. and McDonald's Inc. <br />for their generous donations to this program, which the Council believes are a fine <br />example of private corporations working with the government to improve the public <br />health and safety of our community. <br />
